Tune of the Day @slaw with the last 40 or so posts - clearly in "the zone" right now... Elvis Costello, I Still Have That Other Girl off "Elvis Costello with Burt Bacharach Painted From Memory" Fleetwood Mac, Show Me a Smile off "Future Games" Vanessa Fernande...
Less expensive alternatives to Klipsch Heritage Cornwall IV? @jasonbourne71 totally agree with that. Earlier this year I purchased a heavily moded/restored Valencia system from a shop that specializes in older speakers; they are just remarkable. To think this is a 60yo design and still vital - I use a 40wat...
Do you recall "instant improvement" from your first stand-alone DAC ? My 1st stand alone DAC was a Rega DACr & was eye-opening for sure. Filters were a negligible gimmick but still, was a fine piece & played great. Next was a Line Magnetic LM-502ca @smoorenc (still have it) and that was/is a fabulous DAC esp...
Tube change. Small signal tubes make a bigger impact. Try rolling those 1st - it's a better starting point than 16 new SE power tubes, oof! Just my opinion
I'm a little perplexed/surprised by TMR and who sells to them..... TMR does a nice job and I've had fine experiences with them but they aren't the only game in town. If you live on the East Coast there are other options. Holt Hill Audio just North of Boston is a super reputable business and their shop (old mill) ...
What is your vinyl commitment? I'm all in on vinyl and have been since my 1st system in 1981. Current setup is made up of a mix of new and preowned components. Luxman 441 deck with Micro Seiki 505mkII w/S pipe & have several headshells. Carts by Nagoka, Audio Technica, Shur...
Do you Think Altec model 19 is outdated speakers ? I'm a big fan of Valencia's and own a set of heavily modified ones. They do about everything right but know going in, they need added bracing, better sound insulation, upgraded internal wiring and obviously upgraded contemporary aesthetics. They c...
Suggestions for a holographic preamp? Aesthetix Calypso Signature $7K - reload with sexy exotic small signal tubes, end search & enjoy over many endless listening sessions with multiple Negronis. Just my opinion...
The cool factor- who has it? Contemporary cool - Leon Bridges, Son Little, Jaten Collin Dimsdale (Teddy Swims) Black Pumas, The Roots and Quest Love, Joss Stone, lots of truly cool people out there today making music.
The cool factor- who has it? Not sure who you're directing that to... my opinion, CB has legendary swag and I love CB Sings because of exactly what it is; a bold attempt to let his voice be heard. It's a great LP for so many reasons. I'm on board, Chet Baker = cool!
The cool factor- who has it? @foggyus91 yeah, not really a debate on vocal chops... if that were the case Joe Strummer & Mick Jones would be in right the mix of your "Tiny Tim" analogy lol. Point is, I think we both find Chet Baker super cool, in spite of his limited voca...
The cool factor- who has it? @foggyus91 Disagree - Chet Baker Sings is my favorite CB LP. It's because he really doesn't have the vocal chops that makes it "cool" - it's also a VERY well recorded album. Heroin has you believe'n you can do anything vibe. Just my opinion
The cool factor- who has it? Paul Weller, Joe Jackson, Marvin Gaye, Curtis Mayfield, Sly Stone, Amy Winehouse, Steve Marriott, John Waite, Free, Chris Robinson, Jason Isbell, Elvis Costello (in a nerdy kinda way) Dolores O'Rierdon, Kay Hanley, Sting... just tossing some out t...
Modern EL34s VS NOS Winged C - and return policies? Depends on the amp/speaker combo but I loved Siemans East Germany EL34s in an Audion Sterling Integrated; what a great little amp. Bite the bullet & go NOS, they're worth it in many ways
Your first concert was to see who and when? Aerosmith at the old Boston Garden in 1977... was a Junior in HS |
