Whats on your turntable tonight?

For me its the first or very early LP's of:
Allman Brothers - "Allman Joys" "Idyllwild South"
Santana - "Santana" 200 g reissue
Emerson Lake and Palmer - "Emerson Lake and Palmer"
and,
Beethoven - "Piano Concerto No. 4 in G Major" Rudolph Serkin/Ozawa/BSO
slipknot1

Greg as you probably know, Pantages is Meyer Sound equipped and well dialed in ;-) ….one of my favorite larger venues… Storm singing or China ?….

CJ is one of those bands I love but lack many of their lps Jim.

I bought the Speakers Corner issue of Delaney & Bonnie for that reason.

Steve - Black Eyed Man is awesome….

In arrears:

Al Hirt - Carnegie

Delaney and Bonnie and Friends - On Tour w Clapton ( the elusive M copy still eludes me…. )

Zevon - S/T

Flaming Lips - Transmissions From the Satellite Heart 1993/2001 Reissue WB Records - Germany

Timbuk 3 - Some of the Best Of Timbuk 3/Field Guide 1993 I.R.S. Records on AAD CD version.

Live music last night, Pink Martini at the Pantages Theater in Tacoma.  I was able to pick up a couple more of their records that I don't have at the merch table - Hey Eugene and Get Happy.

The Kinks - Lola Versus Powerman and the Moneygoround, Part One 50th Anniversary Vinyl Edition (2020 Remaster)

A wonderful left field pop/rock record by a dead set rock legend.

With personal favourites ‘Vicious’, ‘Perfect Day’, ‘Satellite of Love‘, ‘Goodnight Ladies’ and of course the magnificent ‘Walk on the Wild Side‘, a gutsy exploration of the then taboo subjects of sexual orientation, gender identity, prostitution and drug use, this quirky, personal, theatrical album never fails to put a smile on my face and is a glam rock classic.

Lou Reed - Transformer

Brooke Waggoner – Originator (Swoon Moon Music 2013)

Buddy Tate / Humphrey Lyttelton – Kansas City Woman (Black Lion 1975)

Loudon Wainwright III – Unrequited (Columbia 1975)

@mammothguy54

Thanks Brian.  I ordered the correct copy, from Discogs.

No problem Joel, enjoy!

Jethro Tull - Aqualung

Jethro Tull - Thick As A Brick

The Steven Wilson Stereo Vinyl Remixes

Curtis Amy - Katanga ( Blue Note Tone Poet )… just fantastic

Thanks Brian.  I ordered the correct copy, from Discogs.

My wife may even stay in the listening room for this one.

Shirley Bassey-All By Myself Side 1

Rimsky-Korsakov(MS 6092) Side 1 SQ Audiophile

New England-ST Side 1

Paul McCartney-Band On The Run Side 1

Eubie Blake-The Eighty Six Years Of Eubie Blake-Side 3

Neil Diamond-The Jazz Singer Side 2

Randy Sabien Jazz Quintet-In A Fog Side 1 SQ Audiophile

Vern Gosdin-Chiseled In Stone Side 2

Diamond/McCartney and Gosdin were well above average in SQ. The SQ champ tonight goes to Randy Sabien. If you don’t find Shirley Bassey overly bombastic her version of New York State Of Mind might appeal to you.

@bkeske

it’s an exceptionally good recording. And I’m no judge of course but the harpist sounds quite enchanting. Nice warm tone. Harp can sometimes be tacky but not on this.

Joel, mine is the 37244. But, on the back it does say it was ‘cut from the first generation analog copy of the digital master’

Very nice LP regardless.

@bkeske  I am interested in that Isaac Stern Album.  I see on Discogs there are two versions, one is a digital process and the other is not.  The digital process is release 36692 and the analog (I believe that is the main difference) is 37244.  Which one do you have?  Any comments from anyone else, I am all ears.

Thank you.

Been away from the listening room for a few days, but getting caught up today!

Which one of you uses a Nivico table? I know I've seen pics posted of it. Send me a PM please if this is you. Thanks

@spiritofradio

James, no, never heard that one. The one I just played it really very nice. Really shows me how nice it is to have the new Belles Aria Signature pre. The harp sounds amazing with that new piece added to the mix.

Harp concertos are not an important type of music for me 🙂, but having that album in the collection is quite enjoyable.

But thanks, I’ll see if that one is in Tidal and save it for a future listen.

Edit: Found it and saved.

Brian, do you know this recording of the Saint-Saëns Op. 154?  Check it out.

@gajgmusic

Agreed! I kinda bought it on a lark, but it is really fantastic. Those three get going and it’s incredible.

Glad I picked it up.

That is one of my favorite albums.  The music and performers are superb.  I bought it when it first came out.  Had to save up for it.  I will have to go find my copy.

Cannonball Adderley - Somethin’ Else

👍🏼 A fantastic LP, which I have, and others do here as well.

@tomic601

A mono cartridge…..

Live large Jim, get one 😁 But, the Brinkmann, where?

…….is a second table looming on the horizon? Too bad you sold the SOTA 🙃

Thanks all for the lovely welcome…I’m really happy I’ve come across this thread…I’ve been reading the equipment threads (for want of a better word) for a little while but not posting, I think I felt my knowledge of Hi-Fi and how to describe it was lacking compared to others…but I agree, this is by far the nicest thread on here 🙂 and I’m much more comfortable discussing the music.

I’m in Australia so my posts are probably going to be a little askew timeline wise, but I’ll do my best to keep up.

It’s morning here now, but I’m working from home with the bonus of being able to play the odd track or album whilst I do, so I couldn’t resist a little jazz to ease me into the day:

Cannonball Adderley - Somethin’ Else

An album where Miles Davis gets second billing is indeed “somethin’ else”
