The J. Geils Band / “Live” Full House
1972 Atlantic
Beach Boys - Smiley Smile Analog Productions 180 gram Mono remaster just received from Acoustic Sounds after being on backorder for about a year. I've been waiting a long time to replace my original 1967 Brother Mono copy.and I am not disappointed. Dead quiet and the SQ is fantastic from the whispers on Wonderful to the thumping bass on Getting Hungry. |
Tony Bennett-A Time For Love Side 1 Randy Travis-No Holdin’ Back Side 2 Led Zeppelin-IV(no barcode symbol label)* Side 1 Police-Ghost In The Machine Side A SQ Audiophile Freddie Hubbard-Sweet Return Side 1 SQ Audiophile Son Seals-Chicago Fire Side B Jefferson Starship-Freedom At Point Zero Side A Zoot Sims-And The Gershwin Brothers Side 2 SQ Audiophile All vinyl had above average SQ tonight except Son Seals or Starship being the weakest(average) I don’t believe the *Zep is an early pressing maybe mid/late 70’s, acceptable SQ curious if mint OP is much better? Hubbard and Sims are both great Audiophile recordings. I give the slight edge to Freddie Hubbard since its not as forward and has a wider soundstage. Both are great jazz recordings/performances for a minimal cost. |
@rafevw Welcome to THE thread. Thanks for posting about this album. I was not familiar with it but streaming it now and really digging the sound. Great players! And the strings are really nice too. RVG recording but so far to me sounds more modern. Maybe this digital is remixed, don’t k ow. Great post. On my want list now. Thanks! |
Back home from my latest ski trip. Fantastic skiing at Mammoth Mountain. Spinning vinyl today. The new analog rig is spectacular. Talking Heads - Speaking In Tongues |
@big_greg ya man, expertly crafted…. fun |
My Dark Horse is a Jacksonville pressing as well. I think it sounds pretty good, but in terms of surface noise, well, I bought mine new when it was released, and played the hell out of it. So, many of my albums from that time have ‘user abuse’ surface noise vs pressing noise. Thus, can’t say I can blame the pressing as much as not handling my vinyl back then with the care I do today. Damn teenagers! 😁 |
@bkeske What condition is your "Dark Horse" in? By that, I mean any peculiar surface noise? My "Living In The Material World" is awful. Terrible surface noise which is evident throughout the record on both sides. The record was allegedly pressed at Capitol in Jacksonville, IL. Generally, they do a pretty good job. But on this release, early '73 according to Discogs, they used some kind of mold release agent that won't come off. It's visible from the matrix throughout the grooves to the edges of the record on both sides. I've tried several surfactant treatments and 3 trips through the Degritter to no avail. I compare this with John Lennon's "Walls and Bridges" plus the Red and Blue Beatles double LP compilations both from the 1973/74 era and pressed at Capitol-Jacksonville which are pristine.
