Interesting choice of materials by Cardas.

Hey Bill,
Really think the adapters for the volume control that needed XLR to RCA, needed time to break in as well, and I’ve accounted for that in my mind. I splurged on the expensive Cardas. They are very short in length machined out of bronze then gold plated. Not low mass but solid connection.

Marvin Gaye "What’s Going On"
2022/Tamla/Motown/UMe
Ok, there are two new versions featuring the Detroit Mix. The best is supposedly the version pressed at Precision, Kevin Gray mastering. This is that. It helps that I got great deal on it.
My local friend and I both have the MFSL One-Step. He told me about this version with lots of love for it. Here we go ....

Steve, my vexperience with RSD releases is hit and miss, especially when on colored vinyl. I'm not disappointed, it was an enjoyable listen. Just a few minor distractions.
|
BTW, I just listed to my old CD copy of "Genius Loves Company". It's better than I remembered it being. Thanks for the reminder Greg...
|
Greg, .
It's a shame when you need to disclose all of the faults on a new record.
|
Hey Joel,
You gotta really break those speakers in now!

@big_greg @slaw - I have that Ray Charles album on the original Monster "Super Disc" set that included a stereo 2-channel CD and a high definition multi-channel surround disc. The CD sounds pretty good, although Ray seems just a bit past his prime. Never really listened to the high-definition surround disc and I don't even have a multi-channel rig anymore. I was going to buy the RSD vinyl, but it was sold out at my indy shop.
For me, the winner from the most recent RSD was "Sweet Relief - A Benefit for Victoria Williams". Was lucky to find a copy a few days after I missed RSD. It's a great selection of Victoria Williams songs by various artists. There are some really good interpretations on that album.

@dayglow
Weisberg 4 is still in route. The Holiday Weekend played a role in that. It is on schedule for Saturday arrival. I'll play it Saturday night.
Last weekend for my Dynaudio Contour 60i speakers. They are being picked up by FedEx Freight later next week, bound for TMR (The Music Room) in Colorado, for sale on consignment. My new speakers should be shipping any day now (possibly tomorrow), and I hope they arrive by end of next week. That would all be good timing.🤞
|
Steve, it's good but not great. The recordings are really good. There are two discs with only three songs on each side so that's good. There's a little distortion and a little surface noise in spots on the vinyl but overall it plays good.

|
Ray Charles - Genius Loves Company, RSD gold vinyl. This was the only record that caught my eye from the June RSD drop.
|
Brian,
I am not using my 10 db boost now. I like it so far. Supposedly less noise?, the unit is pretty quiet anyway. Sounds more natural.

By the way, the R.H.C.P. Unlimited Love album last night was a treat. Really well produced and some of their best music in a long time and great dynamics.

I don’t usually chime in here but took the afternoon to spin some new vinyl and am floored by Sarah Vaughn on Emarcy one of the acoustic sounds verve series records mastered by Ryan smith at sterling sound. This is jazz vocals at their best with an incredibly vivid sound straight from the studio in 1955. A must if you like this genre or want a compelling introduction.
