Just got a new phono preamp today: Sutherland 20/20. Blown away by it. Listening to some of my favorite records and it’s like hearing them for the first time. Among others, played Debussy Nocturnes with Bernard Haitink and the Concertgebouw Orchestra from 1981. Magical!

The classic Mendelssohn 3rd Symphony with Peter Maag and the London Symphony Orchestra on London Treasury.
Just gorgeous in every way!
Vaughan Williams Symphonies  8 and 9.
Sir Adrian Boult
London Philharmonic Orchestra
Gorgeous sounding EMI Greensleeve recording

Karajan’s 1959 recording of Strauss’s Ein Heldenleben on DG’s Resonance label.
Stupendous sound and performance!

Brahms 4th Symphony

‘Eduard van Beinum conductor Concertgebouw Orchestra

1958 pressing

fabulous performance and sound

The wonderful set of the Haydn “London” Symphonies with the Concertgebouw conducted by Colin Daivis on Philips.

Made an amazing discovery today. I played the very impressive sounding Telarc  CD of Frederick Fennell conducting Gustav Holst’s Suites for band. Then I played the digital LP of the same performance. The record sonically totally blew the CD away in every way even though it was a digital original.

I’m listening to an old Quintessence LP of Earl Wild playing Rachmaninoff’s 4th Piano Concerto with Jasha Horenstein conducting. Fabulous disc in every way.
‘Those old Quintessence recordings, though cheap, were outstanding.

Just listening to Munch conducting “Daphnis and Chloe”.
Wow!  Never really heard it before with my old preamp.

Haydn Symphony #98 with Colin Davis and the Concertgebouw orchestra.
Sonically blows away an SACD of the same piece and the same  conductor leading the LSO that I just obtained.
Vinyl never ceases to amaze me.
Mobile Fidelity Original Master recording of Resphigi’s “Pines of Rome” with Maazel and the Cleveland Orchestra.
Maybe the best sounding LP I’ve ever heard.
Sheffield D2D Prokofiev “Romeo and Juliet” ballet highlights.
Erich Leinsdorf, Conductor.
sonically amazing.
Has to be heard to be believed!

Prokofiev: Romeo and Juliet with Eric Leinsdorf on Sheffield.
‘Spectacular sound.
boxer12,
Thanks for your response.
I think the problem is in the record itself.  I don’t generally have a problem with thickness in LP’s.
On an A B listening comparison of the LP and CD, I have to report a great disappointment.  My sonic memory was dead wrong.
Unfortunately, the CD is more transparent than the LP, which sounds a little thick.
I’m listening with a a four figure cartridge and a pretty decent turntable, so I don’t think that’s the problem.
Oh well.......
Just got my copy of the LP of JT’s America Standard.  Didn’t get the 45 rpm  version because I didn’t want to keep changing sides.
As it is, it’s much better than the CD: instruments much clearer, veil lifted.
One complaint. The record arrived dirty and noisy with a hair on one side.
After washing, it sounds pristine.
slaw,

I have the CD of American Standard.  Just ordered the LP.
Wonderful music.

“Sweet Baby James”. James Taylor.
50 year old original Warner Bros. LP. has just about the best SQ of any record I own.  Especially “Suite for 20 G”
. Absolutely incredible!
Mwink,

”JT is good anytime,”

Absolutely,  Especially on the early Warner Brothers LP’s.
Brahms 4th Symphony, Eduard van Beinum, Concertgebouw Orchestra
an oldie original I’ve had since 1959.
