Yes, it was 80's vinyl night! Thought I would end the year with my wife's favorite pop music decade, it's a toss up for me 70's-80's.

@dayglow +1 on Russ Ballard, The Godfathers
I agree with you on “audiophile” on At The Third Stroke

@bslon Thx-Happy New Year! At The Third Stroke is one of a few albums that AOR radio completely missed on. "Cast The Spirit" is a standout track.

Ned's Atomic Dustbin - "Are You Normal"

Music on Vinyl. Way better SQ than the original CD.

My current vinyl dilemma - What to do with new records I received as gifts that have have defects? Got a couple for Christmas that have SQ defects. Multiple trips through the Spin-Clean and US RCM and still ticks on each record rotation. Luckily, none warped in this batch.

I wonder what is the return rate of new vinyl these days?

Talking Heads / More Songs About Buildings And Food
1978 Sire

Bummer about your new LPs @reubent. Your LRS might exchange if you say it was a gift. It’s worked for me.

@bslon - Hey Bill. I think the record was ordered through Amazon as it was on my wishlist there. Think I'll ask for an exchange. It's not a terrible defect, but a regular tick on each revolution, all the way through the first track on both sides. Can only really hear it in the more quiet passages, but annoying enough to distract from the experience. Shouldn't happen on a new record, fresh out of sealed shrink...

@reubent I totally agree Tom, it’s unacceptable. Quality control isn’t what it used to be. If we all return new defective LPs, hopefully it will send a message. My personal experience the past few years is 1 in 3 get exchanged.

I realize I've lowered my standards in terms of what condition new vinyl I get in, stays or goes back these days. I think I do it for personal sanity. 😜

@slaw  - Steve, I have had pretty good luck until recently, and my standards were probably not as high as yours and some other folks. I could tolerate a bit of noise. But some of the one's I've gotten recently had obvious defects in the vinyl. I think I'm going to start returning those from now forward.

Yes, it was 70's night and even played an extra LP. FWIW all recordings make my Top 100 1970's Pop/Rock Albums list. The Knack takes the SQ crown with the best Power/Pop recording I'm aware of. Might be worth preordering the AP-UHQR pressing of The Royal Scam. Have 'Countdown" which is my favorite SD recording followed by "Scam". FYI have been putting off playing those last 100+ unplayed albums in the collection mostly due to preconceived content but will get at it.

Just got 10,000 Maniacs MTV Unplugged for Christmas will open clean and listen to today
