Triangle Magellan Duetto 40th Anniversary

I've read such great things about these speakers, and I'm wondering if any members have owned or do own them, or have had other opportunities to hear them, and what their opinions are.

Thanks

Hello,  perhaps one of my points came across wrong.

"I have nice electronics and Audionet Max amps".

My point here is that stand mount speakers are often paired with lesser electronics or amps.  In stores, the big speakers are usually displayed with the nicer stuff, and smaller speakers with smaller integrateds and or lesser priced front ends.  This is why some buy nice standmounts, under power them and then say they are so so.  Better standmount speakers REALLY SHINE when given good stuff.  Cheaper standmounts not so much.

@fastfreight this is awesome to hear. I guess I'll be on the hunt for some stand mounts to see what I think. The hunt continues.

@j-wall

It's a little difficult to describe, but with larger speakers, the entire "scene" is a bit harder to take in, and I can just instinctively feel that the smaller speaker is "correct" for the room. Everything is marginally smaller but seems better organized and easier to understand.

I also want to add, concerning the Duettos, that in addition to their dynamics, they are said to have excellent speed and timing, which I find important for jazz in particular.

I'm running the Magellan Duetto with 40 watts of KT88 and love them. Lots of detail and excellent bass. Speakers are dynamic and exciting. I also own 3 other pair of Triangle and have enjoyed them all.

Hello @j-wall , I recently changed (upgraded!) from very large floor standers (Revel Salon 2) to stand mounts and could not be happier.  In my family room which is not small, the Revel's dominated and took up a large amount of space.  I bought a pair of Dynaudio Contour 20i's, intending them for another house.  But, we hooked them up and were blown away.  Note I do have nice electronics, with Audionet Max amps.  The detail and resolution on the Dynaudio's was way ahead of the older Revel's.  But their ability to scale up for the large room, and reach down to decent tight bass was astonishing.  Since my wife was smitten with the small appearance, (even with the stands they appear much smaller and visually fit in the room better), I immediately climbed up the Dynaudio line, finding the top end Confidence 20 in the light oak.  I really had to try these to believe.  The standmount's image and coherences is par non.  Better resolution and soundstage, and still room filling music.  I do run subs, and did even with the Salons.  But with the subs turned off, most people would still be happy.

Hey @roxy54 can you tell me a little bit more about the benefits of smaller speakers in your room? I have Focal Sopra's crammed in my 9x13 room and have considered testing out smaller standmount speakers (Harbeth, Splendor), but I'm just not interested in subs and the headache that seems like to deal with. I've also been concerned I'm going to give up detail, but I'd love to be wrong there.

I have heard Triangle speakers; Both stand mounts and floor standers. They sound good, very good. I suggest one to take an audition. Try the Triangle web site and see if dealers are close by where you live.

Triangles are incredibly detailed but never clinical speakers. I've had both their monitor and floor stander models over the years and keep coming back to them. Simply a well made, acoustically gorgeous speaker. They pair well with tube equipment.

They are beautiful, and that actually has some importance to me because I will be looking at whatever I end up with pretty often, but of course performance comes first.

I actually never heard a triangle speaker, but I have been listening to my pair of old Celestion sl6si stand mounts fo to the last month, and I’ve realized that a small monitor is really what works best in my small 13x11 x9 room. I’ve had much larger speakers, and they worked, but I now think that in this room a good small monitor is better.

I’ve always found dynamics to be very important to me, and Triangle speakers are known for that, and this horn tweeter in particular is supposed to be something really special. I really surprised myself by becoming so interested in these, because weeks ago I took a road trip to California to go to The Show, and I fell head over heels for a pair of Tonian monitors that were truly special, and I immediately knew that I wanted to own them, but now I realize that before I make that commitment I need to hear the duettos, and then figure out how I’m going to pay for them.

Oh, I’ll also say that if I was wealthy and had a larger room, I would love to own a pair of the Lumenwhite speakers I heard there. They sound as beautiful as they look

Welcome to the site @ubercar71s and good luck with your audition @roxy54 they are really gorgeous speakers for sure!

New to this site….

I also had them on my Radar for few months - several reviews were all extremely positive on construction and all materials used ( high end crossovers and binding posts etc) as well as sound characteristics similar to my tastes.

Love the Zebra finish and stylish design including stands. Unfortunately no dealers nearby and I ended up with used SF Nova III’s for same price I just couldn’t pass up. Hope they work out for you!

Yes, I need to hear them. No dealers here in AZ,but I spoke with a dealer in California and he might have them in a few weeks. Road trip!

They look excellent. Triangle is one of those brands that doesn't always get a lot of fanfare, but steadily puts out really great speakers time after time. I'd have a listen if at all possible.

I run the model up, the Magellan Cello 40th Anniversary floor standers. I prefer their golden oak finish which is just as beautifully finished but has a narrower grain pattern and is lighter in tone. They're exceptional speakers, but are so revealing they demand upper echelon electronics to do them justice. Their lower Signature line is a bit more forgiving with moderate amplification. Suggest you try to arrange an audition with your intended electronics if possible.

Never heard them but damn they are beautiful!! Especially fond of the Zebra wood.

All the reviews are stellar. It would seem that the stands be included for optimum sound as well as appearance. I hope you get them!
