...they're back....

asvjerry

@asvjerry

I'm glad for you, but that is a band that i have disliked since college days. Michael has a great smoky voice, but I can't deal with the other singer. Different strokes as always...

Saw them for first time on their "Vices" tour at Cameron Indoor Stadium. Has been a long time favorite band.

@slaw ....something that just appeared from a woman I knew 'then' but not other than casual.....

Long ago and far away, in a land that time forgot,

Before the days of Dylan , or the dawn of Camelot.

There lived a race of innocents, and they were you and me.

For Ike was in the White House in that land where we were born,

Where navels were for oranges, and Peyton Place was porn.

We longed for love and romance, and waited for our Prince,

Eddie Fisher married Liz, and no one's seen him since.

We danced to 'Little Darlin,' and sang to 'Stagger Lee'

And cried for Buddy Holly in the Land That Made Me, Me.

Only girls wore earrings then, and 3 was one too many,

And only boys wore flat-top cuts, except for Jean McKinney.

And only in our wildest dreams did we expect to see

A boy named George with Lipstick, in the Land That Made Me, Me.

We fell for Frankie Avalon, Annette was oh, so nice,

And when they made a movie, they never made it twice..

We didn't have a Star Trek Five, or Psycho Two and Three,

Or Rocky-Rambo Twenty in the Land That Made Me, Me.

Miss Kitty had a heart of gold, and Chester had a limp,

And Reagan was a Democrat whose co-star was a chimp.

We had a Mr. Wizard, but not a Mr. T,

And Oprah couldn't talk yet, in the Land That Made Me, Me.

We had our share of heroes, we never thought they'd go,

At least not Bobby Darin, or Marilyn Monroe.

For youth was still eternal, and life was yet to be,

And Elvis was forever in the Land That Made Me, Me.

We'd never seen the rock band that was Grateful to be Dead,

And Airplanes weren't named Jefferson , and Zeppelins were not Led.

And Beatles lived in gardens then, and Monkees lived in trees,

Madonna was Mary in the Land That Made Me, Me.

We'd never heard of microwves, or telephones in cars,

And babies might be bottle-fed, but they were not grown in jars.

And pumping iron got wrinkles out, and 'gay' meant fancy-free,

And dorms were never co-Ed in the Land That Made Me, Me.

We hadn't seen enough of jets to talk about the lag,

And microchips were what was left at the bottom of the bag.

And hardware was a box of nails, and bytes came from a flea,

And rocket ships were fiction in the Land That Made Me, Me.

T-Birds came with portholes, and side shows came with freaks,

And bathing suits came big enough to cover both your cheeks.

And Coke came just in bottles, and skirts below the knee,

And Castro came to power near the Land That Made Me, Me.

We had no Crest with Fluoride, we had no Hill Street Blues,

We had no patterned pantyhose or Lipton herbal tea

Or prime-time ads for those dysfunctons in the Land That Made Me, Me.

There were no golden arches, no Perrier to chill,

And fish were not called Wanda, and cats were not called Bill

And middle-aged was 35 and old was forty-three,

And ancient were our parents in the Land That Made Me, Me.

But all things have a season, or so we've heard them say,

And now instead of Maybelline we swear by Retin-A.

They send us invitations to join AARP,

We've come a long way, baby, from the Land That Made Me, Me.

So now we face a brave new world in slightly larger jeans,

And wonder why they're using smaller print in magaznes.

And we tell our children's children of the way it used to be,

Long ago and far away in the Land That Made Me, Me.

Not that I'm interested in returning to that era and the errors that made it Real

One looks back down that ladder, and fears the fall it yields

You can pause and stall, and consider what was 'cool'

but realize that backing up would make you look a fool

One's better off being a part of the era that makes it now

As backing back just runs the risk of making it all a foul...

MHO..... ;)

Time starts every moment, and we're only just witnessess to the events....

Live it or live with it. 👍 ;)

@roxy54 ....*L*  Can't please everyone....nor will I try.....
Can't stand?  Can't force, nor will....
Move on, and Cu8ter..... ;)

....stick around for the following vid....

Up all night...not high or drunk 'nuff to pick specific targets....fortunately....*G* ;)

@asvjerry

No offense intended Jerry. Just expressing my own feelings about the band. As I said, I'm happy for you.

@roxy54 ....no offense taken, 'mhos' understood.....;)

Just a bands' LP that bridged a difficult time in my past, one rational that I keep a TT in my collective.....

Play loud and often, friend Rox...*S* 👍

? Confused over this entire thread. Where's the audio gear theme? Or, like every other forum/social thread are users just posting whatever pops into their head? Graduation posts coming next ?

I became a fan the moment the song Disciple hit the airwaves. 200 mile round trip to see them in September?  Doobie?  Or, not Doobie? Count me in.

Yes, time is running out for these original rockers.  Saw America about a month ago.  They are one original band member away from being a "tribute band". An endangered species to be sure.

Making a 600-mile round trip to see Ambrose next month.  3 out of the 4 original members remain.  In 1975, Ambrosia’s first album was a masterpiece (in my view).  Texture, rhythm, creativity, beautiful vocals, the occasional unexpected and, yes, fun.  I also sold lots of speakers using that 60-second transition from Nice,Nice,Very Nice to the intro of Time Waits for No One.  Crank the volume up to 8.5 ... the winding of the clock ... then B-O-O-M!!  Made it a no-brainer to buy bigger/better stuff that played L-O-U-D!! It’s a long-overdue "Thank You" from me to the band.

A little music trivia:  Alan Parsons produced the first Ambrosia album. And all the original Ambrosia musicians played on the Alan Parsons Project album.

The big question for the Doobie Brothers concert?  Who do we want invite, and sit with for 4 hours in the car on the way up and back?

Thanks, @larsman ....Got excited about the tour until I saw the sites....only 3 possible if spouse and self wanted to take 3 days to do so....and the tix $ would likely be of the 'nosebleed' variety since they haven't toured in decades....

3 days?  Get there, get back (to where we belong...*g*), and we like to wander locales that we've no other reason to visit....just 'cuz....

Only time live for the DBros. was in Oakland CA when we called SF home.
Great show, but I've gotten picky as to what I go to hear live since my ears don't handle the crowd racket very well any more...

I'm obvious as to the guy wearing hearing protection over my aids, as the audience yells and whistles pierces like a dirty white noise that blows out my hearing if I don't.  That stems from a Houston concert @ Cynthia Woods when my hearing went 'pop' and mostly stayed that way....

I can handle 'loud', Yes.  But I want the volume control over it sans the crowd.
That, and the cost of a beer or 2 is ridiculous....started carrying a hip flask until the metal detectors made that nil....that and TX PD's would pop you for carrying 'paraphernalia'....
True story....got pulled over by a trooper who wanted to tear my car apart.
Then tried to boost it to 'possession'.....
Left TX not long after....nice folks IF you stay in the cities, *sshole govt.

@saugertiesbob ....What's your fav groups?  Can I make fun of them?  Only fair, there...🤨

@saugertiesbob The music category is generally pretty informative (for me).

Although I dislike fundamentally negative threads like "Are there any recording artists you just can’t listen too?" Who cares?

@macg19 ...agreed....I'd rather focus on artists and bands that I appreciate what and how they 'do what they do' v. what and who I don't....

Just a personal quirk, I guess...  Pardon if it riles...
