J-Wall: @thecarpathian I don’t think you’ve managed to convince anyone here you know what you’re talking about
What are you talking about? Speaking for everyone? Dude, honestly, you’re analysis and your retorts are the very definition of clueless.
Everything @thecarpathian said was reasonable and accurate. All of it. You totally misunderstood the article by looking for things in it that support your fact-free bias regarding cryo research. A six year old could verify it all on Google for you in two minutes.
And then you start with the stupid "ok boomer" jokes as though being older and wiser (than, apparently, you) is instead some kind of a cognitive deficit.
Nothing in that article pertains to audiophilia. Nothing. The nonsense that passes for logic in this hobby could power a thousand Q-anon conventions.
BTW-- for all of the reasons already stated above, cryogenically treating vacuum tubes is stupid beyond belief, unless you want to trade confirmation bias for shorter tube lifespans.
At least the snake-oil salesmen know what they’re selling you, which gives me some hope.
Where is the Audiogon Shaman when you need him!

...I'm already a Ghost in the City....

@tannoy56 , I certainly was, despite myself. ;) And ego is not necessarily a Bad Thing, to flip on M. Stewarts' admonition.
We're just having a good time...your excuse? Hmmm? *S*
Nothing exceeds like excess, anyway...
@widmerpool ...I don't think the speakers would fare well with forever; as for self, becoming an anachronism is happening already.
And the future looks cloudy with hail....

|
So, does this mean if I have myself frozen, not only can I be thawed out and live forever, but my speakers will sound better?
|
Go again doing what, exactly?

Wow! Speaking of Ego. Weren’t you guys loved by your parents?

"By applying a two million volt extreme high frequency signal to a cable at a specific pulse modulation and frequency for an exact duration of time, Synergistic Research alters the entire cable at molecular level through a phenomenon called Quantum Tunneling."
When they do, they’ll need to put on their thinking caps to top this doozy!
|
I have no doubt it will be useful at some point in the future. I also have no doubt that it will not be in the field of audio reproduction. I also have no doubt some cable company will claim to use this effect even though it is totally untrue. I also have no doubt they will provide no proof they are actually using this effect, and I also have no doubt they will provide no proof if does anything beneficial to the sound.
|
@deludedaudiophile "expecting" something is not the same as "proving" it. Now we have proof. Will it be something that might be useful? Maybe. Sometime.
Engineering is after all "applied science". The better our understanding the better we can do - for a price.
|
@moonwatcher , our "experts", as communicated in the article, fully expected this result. They were never able to prove it till now.
|
"This article has to do with how electrons move at very cold temperature. Alas, cables and tubes taken to cryogenic levels seem to affect the electrons to some level that is just being learned. Relax. "
And people worry about their power bills if they run Class A amps...LOL..
Hey it is interesting, showing that even our "experts" don't know everything. There is something new to be learned - always.

I had read that cryogenic treating certain metals improve there conductivity but you correct does not make them a superconductor.
|
If you are using a transformer for audio signals, then the least of your worries is conductivity of a wire.
Magnets are not superconductive. The conductors in electro-magnets can be, but they are not treated to create superconductivity, they need to be cooled to cryogenic temperatures to be superconductive. We are a long way still from room temperature superconductors. If you think skin effect is a problem now, try it with superconductivity. Fixing one problem does not fix all problems. It will not fix inductance either or capacitance.
In audio, the conductivity of wires except perhaps in speaker voice coils (from another topic) is far far down on the list of issues impacting sound. This is just grasping at straws to try to justify wrong preconceived notions.
|
Facts are super conductivity is real, cryogenic treating metal is real. Magnets are treated for maglevs to create super conductivity high energy fields. It is proven to have an affect on magnetics and electricity is part of the electromagnetic spectrum. It’s possible that it may have an affect on cable wire too as we only learn that electricity travels in a wave like light, and what’s the affect on that wave for audio? It is a fact cryogenic treating metals aligns particles in the same direction improving its strength and the stronger magnetic field. I believe it worth a try as the process is cheap. 🤷♂️ And audio signal transformers could be improved too.🤔

And I, for one, welcome our new A I overlords.
Alas! i am afraid you are right....
Our technology is too advanced for our own social primitive and feodal corporate organization, and too advanced for our moral standing...
I am worry, because A.I. is already a social problem because the way it will be used...
Artificial brain and artificial consciousness pose more bigger problem than A.I. too...
We are at the crossroads in all human history between self destructive apes or loving evolving humans....
I dont see leaders with the necessary stature to guide us...
Geniuses are too advanced to be understood, and political leaders now are unbelievably stupid they speak to programmed bots and apes...
I cannot figure out the future...
I am optimist though because i know if suffering exist death dont exist at last...
If i did not know that i would be desesperate these days...
Doistoievsky book help too : "the dream of a ridiculous man"
it is my favorite tale so deep it is impossible to fathom it all...
Dostoievsky is an higher intelligence so much, Niestzche himself look like almost an idiot compared to him, ( i am half joking N. is by far not an idiot) for me Doistoievsky combine Shakespeare acute perception of men like N. himself but with Blaise Pascal intuitive higher perception unlike N. ....
D. like N. integrate their experiences in their own body, but N. fate was dissolution in madness and D. fate was the creation a steel brain with a feeling heart...
There is no counterpart to D. in all litterature and philosophy ...Only geniuses bordering on angel intelligence...They are not much numerous....

And I, for one, welcome our new A I overlords.

Pinheads....Angels are the ’us’ that stoop to assist others, be it the puppy in the dumpster or the stranger in obvious bad straits that can be helped.
Exactly right...
Spirituality is not religion...
It is the consciousness feeling of our interconnectedness by the heart...
What is amazing for me is that mathematics can help us to "understand" cosmic interconnectedness...It is more important to feel it yes , but some understanding is awesome ...It is called science...Feeling it is spirituality...
My only one discovery was when i was 24 years old, the stupendous highest possible complexity/simplicity ratio behind the primes numbers distribution and its meaning...A perfect musical balance guessed by Riemann.......
That was my "religious" moment illumination...A mystical experience for sure...Mathematics is the highest yoga for me...
I designed a simple way to represent them with modulo 6 congruences discovered by Gauss in an hexagon tiling and in an indefinite increasing rectangle ...
"All" essential mathematics visualized in a single picture...
In 1975 i read the first book of Mandelbrot in his only french first publishing...I read him even before his first book, in a "pleiade gallimard" article about science modelling epistemology and telephone line cascading errors modelling , he invented fractals to model a very concrete Bell telephone interference problems😁😊 ... This was my second mathematical illumination...
If primes numbers are everything, Geometry is also everything...
Alain Connes taught me lately that "music" is the missing link between numbers and geometry...
Many others comes after confirming these one...
It is the reason why it takes me 5 minutes to order the book and understand the deep usefulness of Anirban concepts about the mathematical way to design the first "artificial brain" and his "artificial consciousness" ...Do not confuse with A.I. it is not the same mathematics at all...

The best description of an artificial consciousness, not an artificial intelligence is given by an Indian scientist, whose originality is staggering... Artificial intelligence is based on a mathematic of statistical neural network, Anirban artificial consciousness is based on a much higher mathematic non Turing theory integrating any possible usual neural network A.I. like a mere single cell or an eye or an arm...
He was the first to investigate the necessary properties of microtubules for the Orch theory of Penrose...He is not a "sterile" philosopher then... 😁😊
He was the first to conceptualize non Turing auto-programmation of time fractals crystals...
Dr.Anirban Bandyopadhyay Senior Scientist at the National Institute for Materials Science, Japan
The condition for self awareness is a paradoxically a time synchronization of all clocks through all the scales of the cosmos, then an artificial brain must be able to synchronize itself with the cosmos..
How ?
He designed the mathemathics to do so, using geometry and the prime numbers distribution cleverly ...
I am amazed by his first book "nanobrains" ( 10 to come)
The common definition today is self awareness.
Then you are right but self awareness imply a timing relation with the universe at all scale...Anirban’s artificial brain ( the first one) illustrate how to do it...
The soul is just a construct of those afraid to die, permanently.
Here your claim is 19 century notion of matter and materialist theology...
You are completely wrong...
The soul participate from the timing interaction between all living entities in the cosmos...
The spirit is a level higher....
Materialism is dead for a long time now....Sorry for the news...
Read Goethe ....And Grothendieck and Mochizuki his successor , and Alain Connes amazing non commutative geometry theory about time and "music" converging completely with Anirban theory...
I dont want to die with the mathematics of the 19 century....Technology without mathematics is blind and deaf ...

@mahgister ...*S* 😎👍
I finally got around to popping some popcorn whilst spouse and self watched the latest episode of the 1/6 investigation....haven't been able to beat it for a not-so-subtle form of entertainment delving into what seemed really f'n obvious to anyone paying attention to DJT's past 'life' (being generous with that concept of 'life')...
Subtle aside time:
If I won a 'substantial' lottery (not likely, but if wishes = fishes, there would be things that would reek of my passing...)....
-The windows of DJT's pseudo-'oval office' in FL would get a daily hi-speed drone attack of fresh dog waste on the windows....doubt that he's paid for that 'enhancement', either....(Movie references: 633 Squadron, which G. Lucas spoofed into the Death Star attack in Star Wars movie #1...yes, he did, and the dialog matches in either....)
-No, my audio would more or less remain the same, just worse.... *L*
- I would for most practical of reasons, Disappear. Any appearances would occur suddenly with no previous warnings, but overall civil and perhaps entertaining.
...and that's just off the top of my head.

I’d like to ’talk’ to Googles’ supposed ’aware’ AI.
The problem with this engineer revelation about the supposed or alleged "consciousness" of A.I. is not the hypothetical question about his " consciousness"...
The Turing test will never prove anything, Turing was bright enough to know that people will never unite around a common definition of consciousness...
He then proposed his own version of a "blind test"...
The problem is very simple, most people and me included,. we will think at some point or interact with A.I. the way we think when we interact with humans or dogs because it is our natural habit to react like this in a conversation...A domesticated dog has a new consciousness of his own , a kind of intelligence to read us no other animals own...
Then it is humans that will lend consciousness to the A.I. and when something you interact with borrow your own consciousness, it become real...
And in this interaction it will be the human who will be changed in something less than what they are already...
The soul is not an habit, nor a program, everything has a soul of his own, sleeping like a princess... The soul is a primordial interaction under their own conscious intelligence between animated spirits which unite them ...
Beware who sleep and you want to kiss....
|
For the future of Hi-Fi it will be an internalized A.I. coupling our brain/ears with the room/speakers or the micro headphones like with Smyth realizer but on a way more deep level....
The rest is only improvement in the engineering materials and so great this will be, this cannot beat controlled acoustic/psycho-acoustic...
Acoustic and psycho-acoustic control beat most engineering upgrade even now...
For sure i can be wrong...
It is only my take with my little experience in my room...

When I turned 65, I decided to 'turn the dawg loose' and be the crank many assumed I was anyway. Now, at 71, I might have become irrationally adept at it, and since AG has either lost or barred some of the more practiced naggers and needlers that tossed the odd bon mot to the rare bon ami....

Does the following passage from the article give credence to the claims of hi end cable and power conditioning manufacturers?
The answer is NO! Hell No!!
|
@franklinb66 that's my exact question as well. If electrons flow like fluid, what are the current limitations getting in the way of this. How will electronics, cables and all devices going forward use these learnings and what Pandora's box does this open up. It seems like new theories are being learned at light speed and how this new lessons are implemented is fascinating. What's even more fascinating are the deniers of everything ala Audioholics and Audio Science Review, but how science isn't waiting for them to catch up.
|
Impurities in any metal affect conductivity.
|
Does the following passage from the article give credence to the claims of hi end cable and power conditioning manufacturers?
An electric current should essentially be able to do the same (exhibit fluid-like behavior), but any collective behavior of electrons is usually overridden by impurities and vibrations in normal metals and even semiconductors. These 'distractions' knock electrons around as it travels and stops them from exhibiting fluid-like behavior.

@thecarpathian What's that saying, "a pot calling the kettle black"? Nice try, have a lovely night you big fountain of information you.
|
Quite an alternate reality you've created for yourself.
I’m sorry, j.
Perhaps you missed the part of my post about ’amusing and irrelevant’.
Now you’re just irrelevant.
|
@thecarpathian I don't think you've managed to convince anyone here you know what you're talking about, so you can save your "spanking" for your grandchildren. Listen, you aren't intimidating and you are providing zilch to the discussion. Your responses are an appalling and sad attempted at humor and an absolute miss of information. You're upset and triggered, and that's ok. I'd love to learn more on what you have to offer. So if you can get over your infatuation with me and just provide information and data, we all as a collective will be better off without your rambling boomer humor and emojis.
|
I still say brain implants will be decades ahead of electron whirlpools for cutting edge hifi in the future.
|
Oh, j. Don’t flatter yourself. I find you at most an amusing, irrelevant distraction.
You know j, I was considering giving you a good old fashioned intellectual spanking, but what’s the point. You’re way too smart to be buying what I’m selling.
So you continue to be mesmerized by your new to you 140+ year old ’cutting edge’ technology, misunderstanding and misinterpreting all the fascinating new electron discoveries, and swallowing whatever cryo word salad the tube, fuse and cable guys are serving up this go ’round.
You continue to disregard the ’peanut gallery’ and the ’want to be experts’ on this forum and listen to the ’science guys’. But remember this, j; a lot of the peanut gallery and want to be experts on here are science guys. Pity you’re too closed minded to see it. Perhaps when you get a bit older...
And as far as what I’m ’selling’; all I’m stating in my posts is irrevocable facts and truth, and since you’re not buying, you are free to die on your hill of myopic ignorance.
Can I insult people eloquently or what??!😎
|
Let see you respond to that C
|
@thecarpathian you seem to be fixated on my thoughts for some weird reason. We don’t agree and you are free to die on your hill of being an expert in Cryogenics. I'm not an expert, but I don't buy what you're selling and it is what it is. It's not as big of a deal to me as it seems it is to you.
|
j-walls heart is in the right place, he’s just about 50 years behind discovering this stuff. I also think he's not yet up to speed on all the hype and smoke and mirrors that comes with this hobby.
|
I cannot share more on this without breaking confidentiality.
That is funny! 😁
|
Cryogenically treated, micro-grain, solid carbide tooling became "all the rage" back in the early 1980's. That is the last time that "I" remember (Cryo) treated metals being espoused as-
"Cutting Edge" tech.!
