Without some range of budget, room and music preferences/ volume expectations a good answer is near impossible

With your gear from inexpensive all the way to mega expensive look at Dynaudio,Dali & Sonus Faber...

I would suggest you take your time and audition as many models as you can, within the range of prices and speaker sizes you can accommodate.  Lots of good suggestions (above), you may also want to listen to the Harbeth's, KEF's, Quad's, Magnapan's, Martin Logan's, Wilson's to name a few.
gooday thanks much for all the suggestions what does everyone think of the philharmoics 3.s seems to have good components

One on my friends has the Philharmonic 3 speakers paired with AVA electronics they are truly outstanding in all aspecs. If you contact Dennis he maybe able to find someone near you with a pair to audition.
good morning yes thank you they are def on my listening list ......i am in va....so should be able to do that......finishing up my built ins glass shelves with lots of ventilation that amp puts out a lot of heat anyone paired up mac stuff with them?
Furman conditioning is well made, real engineering and reasonably priced imo

the 15 should work

I dislike B&W speakers. The ones I've heard -- even the top of the line -- have always sounded boxy and congested. I doubt they take much pride in their products, because the company has been around for a long time and has not achieved much. They spend a lot on marketing, though, and therefore sell lots of speakers. Just my experience.

i Agree didnt do it for me... i used to have the big infinitys bi amped with adcoms dp 3500 dd turntable with moving coil cartidge that was around 1980 thought it was prettty good i was there once,,,,, having fun gettting back to it not rushing things
hi there everyone anyone have any experience with the mac SL 6 floorstanding speakers? thanks
celto, Audio Classics in Binghamton NY sells Mac speakers, so you may want to contact them. I bought a pair of Quad 2905's from them a while ago and they told me that my Quad's out performed any other pair of speakers they've carried including the MacIntosh.Aside from the various other Quad options, I'd suggest looking at a pair of Monitor Audio with ribbon tweeters. For the money they are well regarded and I've heard great things about their Platinum series.
thanks i fear i may be in search for a sound that i experienced in the 80's with my giant infinitys   loved the imagery  they had  they had ribbon tweeters and also mid range
