I have no experience with any of these, but am curious why they are on your list? What is it that draws you to each of them? What's your hesitation for choosing each of them?
i know they are all solid brands i own harmonic technology interconnects and they are beyond amazing just not enough experience with any of them past that i am coming from audience Ohno iii speaker cables and AudioQuest low end so looking to spend 1500-2k on some good cables i like my interconnects now and the crystal clear magnun opus look cool lol but the ht and shunyata cables all have great reviews |
I have personal experience with Crystal Clear Audio. Small one-person operation in California. Solid performance, but practically no resale value. Make sure if you buy, you pay half of the “advertised” MSRP. Other than that, they sound pretty good, and good build quality. I never understood where they get the “6N pure silver” conductors, if true, but yes, they sound good.
Shunyata Venom is their entry level cable. IMO you need Alpha or above to get the true Shunyata benefits. The power cords and power distributors are the Shunyata forte. Speaker cables…. Not so much |
Many on this forum believe that Silversmith Fidelium speaker cables are a sonic bargain. I’m tempted to try even though I don’t need. Zenwave also has high performance high value speaker cables. Agreed that Shunyata not known for their speaker cables, don’t know the other two. If you are concerned with future trade up, make sure your current purchases are resellable - you’ll be able to find a customer who will buy your brand/model. |
I’d be inclined to go with the 6N zero crystal copper of the Acoustic Zen Hologram over the HT Pro cables. I’m a very happy long-time AZ Satori double barrel speaker cable owner and couldn’t recommend their cables more highly. |
I have never heard harmonic technology speaker cables, but did have some interconnects that I liked. Maybe stay in the line? Love Shunyata power products, I have a Denali power conditioner and sigma power cord that is terrific. Haven’t heard a lot about their IC or speaker cables. In the range you’re looking to spend there a lot of great options to explore. Classic speakers, BTW. |
I tried various Nordost speaker cables up to Heimdall along with the new Venom X and ended up liking the "regular" Venom in my system. My previous cables were Reality Cables, an old mail order only brand. The Venom were the only ones I liked better than the Reality ones and it was not even by a lot. I wanted bananas on both ends. The Reality had them on one end. That's the only reason I was looking. |
You should do yourself a favor and check out Darwin Cables. Check out their specials page as well and give them a call. Single, solid core silver cables as thin as you hair within larger tubing that simulates air for a dielectric. Low mass ends as well so not to dirty up the sound. Great guys to talk to and they have a 30 day return policy if you don't like them. Here's a simple video of what they make. No gimmicks or huge PR budget to fluff things up.
All the best, |
@nonoise Thanks for bringing Darwin Cables back to my attention. I remember reading intriguing things about their cables years ago but unfortunately forgot about them. Another company that also uses exclusively silver wire in their products is LavriCables that I found through building my reference HeadFi system. In reading through the Darwin site I noticed they refute the common misconception that silver cables = bright “if it’s done right.” Using my ears with my several LavriCables tells me the same thing — no harshness or brightness whatsoever. I also hear the same thing with my Acoustic Zen Silver Reference ICs in my big rig and also through cryogenically-treated silver VooDoo interconnects I reviewed years ago. Bottom line, not all silver cables are bright and, done right, can be superior to copper and a super value for the performance characteristics on offer. Anyway, thanks for jogging my memory on Darwin cables, and I hope lotsa people put them, along with the others mentioned above, on their radar because if they don’t they’re missing out. Just my experience and opinion FWIW. |
@soix , I couldn't agree more about the misconceptions some have with silver cables. Properly made, they just get out of the way of the music allowing it to sound full, bold, deep, textured, extended, airy, smooth and silken, depending on the recording. There's that caveat that since they get out of the way of the music, what you have left is the speaker, amp, source and recording to deal with. 😄 All the best, |
@nonoise Heh heh. No, MUST be the silver cables causing the problem. 🙄

I use Audience FrontRow with Benchmark AHB2 monos and I was comparing it today with WyWire ’Silver" speaker cables (not made with silver). The Wywire had way more bass output than the Audience. However, the Audience FrontRow was clearer and sounds right to me, though that maybe be just been used to that sound. There does not seem to be any exaggeration of anything with the Audience speaker cables. I also have a short pair of Audience AU24 SX speaker cable s coming tomorrow. I used to think cables made of silver were way too harsh. My RAAL SR1a headphone can be brutally harsh. However, the best headphone cable for it, SR728 and Star 8, are made with silver. There is science and measurements behind that cable, though I do not understand the numbers.
