Why? Are you saying Bluesound engineers don't know how to do the circuitry of their devices correctly?
It's an unnecessary thing to do unless you're having issues
Power Supply Upgrade for Bluesound Nano
Just purchased a Bluesound Nano to use as a dedicated streamer/dac. Performance is outstanding, but am considering a outboard power supply upgrade.
My system is currently comprised as follows:
Belles Aria Two Integrated Amplifier
Bluesound Nano
Vandersteen VLR-CT speakers
Audioquest Cabling and Power Conditioning
Skylan Speaker Stands
Considering Sbooster or Ifi power supplies. Any recommends would be greatly appreciated.
I use the PD Creative board and an iFi power supply. Just using mine as a streamer and it is a nice upgrade. All of this of course lets you use a much lower noise power supply than the unit’s original one. |
I installed a IFI power supply on my Roku and it made the picture much cleaner, less noise, colors looked brighter and more vivid... A worthwhile $80 I think it was, I already have the whole system plugged into a Equitech Son of Q balanced power conditioner, but the cheap stock power supply was noisy |
I’m not an electrical engineer so I’m not an expert. Talking with people who are though I have learned that your focus should be on the power supply in your home. If that is stable and the outlet(s) you are using are supplying the power needed to properly power your equipment you should be set. Power supplies are one of the controversial issues in hi-fi. Some people swear by upgrades and others call it snake oil. Unless the manufacturer offers upgrades or tells you it’s okay I would not mess with it. |

Everything is built to a price point Power supplies are one of the most expensive component in an audio product. Upgrading an inexpensive power supply often results in improved performance.

^^^^ this. Upgrading from a cheap wall wart is a no brainer on an evolved system. How much of a difference you'll notice is a variable, but it should be a step in the right direction. |
In my best Captain Renault voice I am shocked SHOCKED that people on this forum don’t know the power supply of the Nano is an external USB-C 5v2A rather than an internal one and would gatekeep the hobby in saying unless you can drop your monthly income for a power supply or a source component than don’t bother rather than actually helping the person with the original question seeking knowledge.
I went with the iFi Power X. I can't say how much it helped over the stock wall wart because I never used it. That said the Nano with it's built in DAC on it's own is fine, I'm just waiting for my new DAC to ship. |
Upgraded my Bluesound with PD Creative out of Poland. Nice guy there was taking in refugee families from Ukraine at the time but still answered my questions and shipped promptly. I like the results, too. |
@kofibaffour I can tell you my bluesound node 2 has a very bad layout in the power supply, it has two capacitors in the middle of two regulator heat sinks and a transformer on the other side. These two capacitors get hot and prematurely fail, but on the bluesound forum they tell you it's a firmware update that went south. I had to look on a few different forums to actually find out what was really happening, it was the two capacitors, I put two new capacitors in and the red light of death was gone and the node 2 was working again. |
