Power cable for Bryston

Hi all,

Posting this for a friend who recently picked-up this unit as part of a local gear purchase.

Question: For all past and present Bryston BCD-1 cd player owners, what power cables mate best with this spinner?

if you have aftermarket power cords on any of your equipment,  why not let him try one of yours ?

Assuming he doesn’t want to spend too much, Cullen Cable is always a solid recommendation for price/performance. as is Audio Envy.

CD players are not high current and don't need a huge power cord.  It is likely no improvement will be achieved (whether one is "heard" is a different question.  My car always seems to run better after i change the oil, even though I know it runs the same).

I upgraded all of my source components, including my REGA ISIS VALVE cdp/ DAC , BRYSTON BDP1-USB digital streamer- player, and BRYSTON BDA2 DAC to an upgraded array of CARDAS CLEAR and CARDAS GOLDEN REFERENCE power chords.

the step up in audio performance for each was not subtle, with the REGA spinner with its massive beast of a power supply ( cdp weighs ~ 52lbs) now mated with the CARDAS CLEAR power chord being the most prominent step-up in audio performance improvement

I believe Bryston Company frowns upon "hopped up" power cables. I was having a problem with my 4BSST2 amplifier where it occasionally go off on a safety lockout. I called technical support and they really drilled with me with questions concerning the power cord. They said the cords sometimes create the issue I was experiencing. I had the factory cord so that wasn't the problem. It turned out the unit was going off on a ground loop which I was able to correct. Perhaps they are too sensitive on that issue, but I thought I'd share my experience as I found it interesting.

if you want the best sounding power cord get anything OCC single Crystal that is the best wire for audio proven for over 40 years.

Check out the Tripp Lite power cords on Amazon for about $2 - $3 per foot.

Shunyata noise reduction power cords work great on cd players and transports. The older Taipan VX or Python VX can be found at a reasonable cost.

Zavfino offers several different power cords at different price levels, they are all big band for the buck and manufactured correctly. There are several threads on Audiogon regarding all of their products.

I use a Triode Wire Labs Digital American power cord with my BCD-3. Much better midrange and high’s over the stock cable.

I used to have that player, back in 2009. or so. I have tried few power cords on it and this is what I can say for certain. Nordost, not in a dream. I have tried Valhalla power cord and it was the most clinical sound I can remeber until this day. (even with Sonus Faber speakers). Synergistic Research, model Resolution Reference was fine, it sounded like more expensive player, but unfortunately not on many discs...Than, finally, Cardas Golden Reference was the best compromise....also depends what is the rest of the system ....if it is more bright or lively, than Bryston might be too much and than it needs to be 'tamed', perhaps with even 'darker' or 'fuller' cable...
