Pink Floyd’s Roger Waters Ruins the Song ‘Money’!

@mgolpoor

Re Bob Dylan butchering most of his songs onstage, turn to his recent album Shadow Kingdom which is a recording of a small venue live performance.  Comprised of nearly all 60s work and stylistically minimally re-worked, he sings like he hasn't done for 30 years.  See tracklist below.  Order at once, in vinyl or polycarbonate.  You will be amazed what the man can still do.

This of course calls into question whether other stage performances are butchering the songs.  If Dylan couldn't sing them any other way, that might be butchering.  But now we know he can, at the age of over 80.  So perhaps he doesn't see other performances as butchering his work.

"When I Paint My Masterpiece" 4:28
2. "Most Likely You Go Your Way and I'll Go Mine" 3:10
3. "Queen Jane Approximately" 5:16
4. "I'll Be Your Baby Tonight" 2:58
5. "Just Like Tom Thumb's Blues" 4:11
6. "Tombstone Blues" 4:54
7. "To Be Alone with You" 3:10
8. "What Was It You Wanted" 4:53
9. "Forever Young" 3:18
10. "Pledging My Time" 3:27
11. "The Wicked Messenger" 2:47
12. "Watching the River Flow" 3:15
13. "It's All Over Now Baby Blue"

@mgolpoor ,

You may want to re-read my post.

It clearly states the band members contributions to the song went well beyond simply playing their parts. There’s nothing irrelevant about it.

Also, no one said anything about not liking the remake simply because they don’t like Roger Waters as a person. Most of your post is counter pointing a point no one made.

@clearthinker

I do leave him alone, since the stories broke about his (alleged?) pedophile tendencies, I have not watched anything from him.

@grislybutter

Your post questions if the allegations are correct but you appear to believe they are.

So don't forget to purge your memory of every Woody Allen film you have watched in your entire life.  And Mr Spacey while you are about it.  And all the others.

Just to be sure.

@clearthinker I am a hypocrite. If Allen’s movies were so awesome, I would still watch them. Phil Spector was a murderer and I still listen to his songs during Christmas. The irony!

But to stay on subject, the reason I also don’t watch Allen’s stuff is that his pedophilia - to me - comes across in several of his movies. (And again, I wasn’t there, so who knows.) All we know is that the facts make me cringe about the Soon-Yi story, it is as creepy and predatory and despicable as it gets.

You see, if you had let it be, we wouldn’t have dragged it out, again.

@grislybutter   I like most of Allen's work over the last 20 years or so.  It is much more varied than his first 30 years film making.  Since you haven't seen them, you will be pleased to learn that so far as I remember there were no under 21s appearing so any alternative action must have taken place off camera.

As for Mr Spector, after a few listenings I could do without his wall of sound that was far too samey and ruined George Harrison's masterpiece album and also a Leonard Cohen LP amongst a lot of others.  It is a strange world today's youth live in where murder isn't too much of a problem (think gang killings in the USA and Latin America and stabbings in the UK) but the merest negative comment against black lives, LBGT+++++++++ad naus and Me Too are the grave sins of the day.

Ho hum

@clearthinker I don't perceive what you do, namely that murder isn't much of a problem and negative comments about BLM are and that the two are in any way comparable, the way I see it.... well, this is where I should stop. Why argue about stuff completely off topic. We are very different and we won't change by reasoning here on this anonymous forum.

I don’t understand how such a bold proclamation of,
(original author) ruins (own song by merely releasing a new version 50 years later)”,
could possibly be supported by appending a video of some unknown dude sitting on the floor, weirdly singing a completely unrelated song off-pitch, making lazily specious claims (‘bolstered’ by cheap, unsightly graphics), which ends with said unknown dude shown weirdly strumming acoustic guitar on a stool, outside, with acoustic guitar music he’s clearly not playing edited into the audio track.

Bob Dylan has always butchered his songs, it’s his swan song. But I like his music, and I think Modern Times is awesome, butchering and all. Sounds good on my stareo… that’s how we say it here!

Definitely an enjoyable thread as so many points of view. I love Pink Floyd taking my 10-year-old son to see Britt Floyd tomorrow night now there’s a reputable cover band the original known dark side of the moon was engineered by Alan parsons. He did a fantastic job and I love Pink Floyd however Roger Waters is a narcissist, unfortunately, like the one person on here noticed, and although he has an entertainment value when I listen to his interviews, he’s definitely fanatical and doesn’t Bring much insight to the table I’ve known of a few older, white men that left his concert, not enjoying his soapbox rants & musically, David Gilmour is more my speed. Now in other news, I think everyone should take a minute to honor Randy Meisner’s contribution to the Eagles.

Waters is a brilliant musical talent.  He is certainly flawed as a person but Amused To Death is a masterpiece.

I was waiting to hear the trashed remake.

Instead, I’m treated to snarky click bait by a whining baby boomer.

Please don’t waste our time with this nonsense.

Russia was provoked by NATO influence.

Nonsense.  That may be part of Putin's official excuse, but he's an imperialist who compares himself to Peter the Great.  His true aim is to re-claim what he views as "Russian lands" and re-draw the Russian (and by extension, European) maps to what they were 200 years ago - including his notion that Ukraine has no right to exist as a sovereign country.  He's stated as much.

"NATO expansion" is his convenient dodge.

@chrisoshea,  I have been in many liquor stores over the years and never, not even once have I heard any Pink Floyd playing.  Please direct me to that liquor store, I would like to hear for myself.

I thought I was the only 24/7 Devo fan. Fwiw, Roger is coming to dinner Tuesday night and bringing corn casserole. We play spades and drink libations nobody else has heard of.

Roger is a tart!

Clearthinker has it right. Shadow Kingdom is an excellent live album. Any Dylan fan will love it.
