Onzow Stylus Tip Cleaner

I ordered a Onzow ZeroDust stylus tip cleaner to use with an Ortofon Quintet Black.  I'd read somewhere that certain chemicals in the product could cause the stylus tip to come loose from the cantilever, so I sent an email to Ortofon support asking about that.  This was the response:

I’ve heard of a few instances of the Onzow taking the stylus off because it’s very sticky. I recall a rumor where someone using on Onzow (albeit not with our cartridge) had the stylus come off at a trade show.

To be absolutely safe, I’d recommend the use of a dry brush only, as we note in the owners manual.

The ZeroDust packing has "HIGHLY RECOMMENDED by ortofon" on the insert card.  I sent that information to Ortofon support, who asked me for a picture of the card which I sent.

In lieu of the Ortofon supplied stylus brush, I've been using Blu-Tack which works well.  But the ZeroDust cleaner got such good reviews, I thought I'd give it a try.  Anyway, has anyone experienced problems using the ZeroDust product?

I never had any issues except for price. www.SORAsound.com has it for $21.00.

I use blu tac off and on as well. Have to be extremely careful as blu-tac is not forgiving.
Never had any issues with the Onzow although never had an Ortofon cartridge either.
I do not find it to be "sticky gunk" at all?
I can touch it and does not feel sticky or slimy.
I just dip down once or twice lightly between albums.
I also use Stylast every 3 or 4 albums or so.
Not wore out a stylus or damaged one yet......
@sbank  I was using Blu-Tack like you use ME.  I've never used ME, but I believe Blu-Tack worked fine.

Ortofon support new nothing about Onzow's "HIGHLY RECOMMENDED by ortofon" claim and cautioned me about using the product.  For that reason alone, I returned it.
Read Dougdeacons old thread about Magic Eraser. It works so much better for me then Onzow or anything else. Affix it to a quarter coin and lower tonearm so it lands on the ME. Don't pull it by hand like a dry brush. Cheers,
Spencer
I have used brushes and many other types of cleaners and none of them clean like the zero dust.

I use Ortofon carts on all my TT and never had any issues. It is the best cleaning of the stylus that I have experienced hands down. If someone is having issues with it they are not using it correctly.
Been using it about a year and a half, works good no problems, it isn't that sticky, and given my other styles cleaner involves opening a case, taking the brush out of a little baggie, putting a drop of fluid on it and then carefully swiping the cartridge (AudioTechnica Art9), that also has danger for the careless so the Oxbow is my go to cleaner.

Just be carefull and it'll be good. Gotta be carefull with any stylus cleaner.
I've used the Onzow for years on several cartridges, including two Ortofon Jubilees and an Ortofon Cadenza mono.  I've found it effective and trouble free.
Thanks everyone.  This has been very enlightening.  I'll stick to my dry brush and send the Onzow cleaner back to Amazon.

I don't find it any more effective than dry brushing. I didn't know that it has risks with the Ortofons- I knew that alcohol or liquid cleaners were taboo with their cartridges. I use a dry brush, sometimes Magic Eraser, sometimes BluTak (which is, I think, even more effective than the ME). I have had Airtight cartridges for a while and before that, had Lyras. Never had any problem with the Zerodust, though, apart from its efficacy.
Using it for years with no problems.  But, as with anything to do with stylus cleaning, you have to be careful not to move the cleaner while the stylus is on it.  Just down and straight up.  Also, I basically just use it between sides, but then use a liquid cleaner after a record or two in order to get whatever buildup is left.
I threw mine away after gunk built up on my stylus that just would not come off. Yeah that stuff is sticky alright!! Right before I sent my Ortofon Cadenza Bronze to SS for a rebuild this year I scrubbed and scrubbed much more vigorously than otherwise because it didn't matter. I raked it with the ME which you are not supposed to do since the stylus could be yanked off. I never got all of it off. I used Magic Eraser and a stylus brush. I now use Last stylast cleaner with ME and brush. I wont use that gunk again. It migrated up my stylus when I dipped too deep. My 2 new cartridges I got this August are super clean. Wiser now.
Another is RTOM Moongel, a drumhead damping product. Available real cheap at Guitar Center.
I've used BluTack and Magic Eraser.....both do a good job if used properly.  BluTack was recommended by Soundsmith who didn't recommend Magic Eraser.
I use it.  Same cartridge as you.  No problems.  In use for a couple of years.  Gotta be careful though as you must lift the tone arm high enough to clear the container, set down and lift gently making sure not to snag the cantilever returning the arm to its rest.
