Obscure bands

Does anyone know a band called City Boy? (70's/80's)Very obscure and very original. It's beyond Me how such great talent goes so unnoticed! Also please chime in on other obscure talented musicians.

Recently discovered a couple of dark rock bands that made my abdomen move:

Aku You
Sister
astro58go:  I just heard Julie Ruin this weekend on a great web radio station (maybe we're listening to the same station?).  Totally awesome!
I scanned the thread, I could have missed it, if I repeated this one I apologize in advance.

Budgie, 70's Hard Rock Welsh Trio. About 20 pressings. One of Dave Mustaine's influences.

Balleto's YS  is pretty famous in prog circles, no? Along w/ Museo, and a few others. I've been buying some as Seven Seas old reissues from Japan- the price of Museo is nuts. I think all that early Italian and German prog is generally obscure but within the devotee circle, well known. It certainly seems to be known to certain collectors of the genre, based on the prices original pressings of those records command.
and @Nutty mentioned Il Balletto di Bronzo. You definitely have to give their YS album a spin. Insane!
Magma from France (check out Udu Wudu and Mekanik Destruktiw Kommandoh) and Djam Karet (The Devouring, Dark New Age) are two names that come to mind at this very moment. Very underrated bands. Be careful, you'll be sucked into the dark side.... you've been warned.

 As you were....
infection - If you refer to my highly opinionated statement regarding "Cookie Monster" vocals, I was attempting to state that such vocal affectations remove, for me, any semblance of genuine emotion from a performance.  If you enjoy such vocals, more power to you.  You know what they say about opinions.  And nothing brings out people's opinions like musical preferences.
Based on mofimadness...

...Autograph.

The Perfect Circle
Zebra
AMOK
The Jezabels
Other Lives

I scanned through this entire post and I don't belive this was mentioned. If so I apologize up front.

Il Balletto De Bronzo, Sirro 2222.     Italian prog/rock band.

The Nines .  Don't be confused by other bands with the same name (especially a wedding band that goes by that name).  You want Steve Eggers' power pop trio from Canada and the self-titled 2011 release, specifically (first track:  Sun Don't Shine); only available as a download, unfortunately.

Here's a link to the full album on Spotify.

Here it is on CDBaby:

Talk about criminally unknown....that's The Nines.
Saw Davey Knowles tonight. He was great.

I listen to a lot of modern underground metal, so it's all obscure, except to metal-heads, but since this is more of an audiophile's forum I would recommend more of a progressive jazz with a tinge of metal ...

Animals As Leaders - The Joy of Motion

it seems like this thread has turned into a mostly progressive rock discussion.  Many of the groups mentioned don't really seem to me to be "obscure", but then, I guess that's because I know about them already ;-)

Here's some more I haven't seen mentioned:

Gordion Knot
Chroma Key
OSI
Illusion
It’s been a while but I would give them 4.5 stars. We met the band before the show and they were all very pleasant but the two main guys, Roine Stolt and the other guitarist were pretty stuck on themselves.
The highlight to me was meeting the members of Gongzilla. Who are ex members of Gong. They all seemed like wonderful people and very nice. They were playing in town Saturday night but we couldn’t go see them because it rained a lot and forced Progday to move indoors and run way late.
One year we met George Underwood who did album covers for many artists including David Bowie and Gentle Giant. He had lot’s of stories and I bought some of his art. He was very gracious. I wish I could have spent more time talking to him.
Haven’t been to Progday in many years but it was fun.
rwwear, AWESOME!
So The Flower Kings were the headliners?
Out of 5 Stars how would you rate their live performance?

Does anyone know The Flower Kings? They are a Swedish prog rock group. They've been around for quite some time, not sure when they got started.
Great music and most of their recordings are excellent😎

yup, nothing says "I'm a pretentious loser metal poser" like cookie monster vocals!
rwwear, I did not know about Steven Wilson doing all this remixing.
Thanks for the info and by the way I hate "Cookie Monster" vocals😎
Acam, Steven Wilson has been very prolific in his remixing activities. He has remixed in surround the first 5 or so King Crimsons, Jethro Tull through "Too Old To Rock "n" Roll" (he actually made "Aqualung sound good) the first 3 ELP albums "The Power and The Glory" and "Octopus" by Gentle Giant and more. He wants to do much more including ABBA. All while still making his own fine recordings.

Whart, I am a fan of Opeth, their new one "Pale Communion" is good. They have finally done away with the "Cookie Monster" vocals due to voice damage concerns.
I don't think Steve Wilson is obscure, but love his work- i think he is a genius on many levels. I was never into death metal, but the remix of Opeth's Damnation- natural vocals, long form "prog" with good melodic hooks that keeps morphing--is one of the records I've been enjoying a lot lately. This is the remix from the twofer of Deliverance and Damnation. Hard core Opeth fans apparently don't like Damnation.

rwwear, is that the same Steven Wilson from Porcupine Tree? I will definitely be looking into it.
Meanwhile you need to check out Gamma 1,2&3 are SOLID and 4 is decent.😎

Arcam, One of the greatest if not the greatest prog albums of all time is Caravan's "In The Land Of Grey & Pink 40Th Anniversary" Remastered by Steven Wilson and containing a DVDA version of the album in 5.1. The song "Nine Feet Underground" (22:40) is great.
