Obscure bands

Does anyone know a band called City Boy? (70's/80's)Very obscure and very original. It's beyond Me how such great talent goes so unnoticed! Also please chime in on other obscure talented musicians.

I have Be-Bop Deluxe " Life in the Air Age" it's a pretty decent album.
They definitely had their own style😎
nutty,
You are correct and that was the only album I liked by Max Webster("Universal Juviniles")but it was a damn good one!😎
Great to hear from another City Boy fan mofimadness! I remember Trooper and Prism but not China Crisis. I will be checking them out!                                 Have You or anyone else heard of Crack the Sky?                                                            Thanks to everyone for the ideas! Keep them coming!
mofimadness... Check out "Safety in Numbers" and "White Music by Crack the Sky!
Lucifer's friend is another great band. John Lawton was the original singer on the first five or six albums.                      He later did some stuff with Uriah Heep and also some very good solo albums. Hey did a few albums after Lawton left. Just about all of their stuff is good.
I love this, I'm soaking it up!                  Have not heard these guys mentioned. Who remembers Axe?                                  A pretty well kept secret except for thier song "Rock-Roll Party in the Streets" They had at least 6-8 albums that were all solid. (Late 70's- 80's-90's... They Rock!!!
It's a Small World nutty. I love Blackfoot and did not know that Bobby Barth was in the band.
ghosthouse,
No real qualifications, just stuff that's off the beaten path and stuff that got little or no radio play. That's more or less the kind of music I've always searched for. I'm always looking for something new.
Here's another one.
Crawler, a spin-off from Paul kossoff's " Back Street Crawler" after Paul's death. Only two Studio albums that I know of (77'&78')and two or three live albums following.                                                      The first self titled album is excellent! And a great recording to boot.I have not heard the second one or any of the live albums.
Thanks to everyone for their great posts and lists! Looks like I've got a lot of exploring to do.
Meanwhile here's a few more to chew on.
Enchant
Fates Warning
Porcupine Tree
Thanks uncledemp ! Mother's Finest is great!
I checked out Henry gross "plug me into something" on YouTube. I really like it.
Do you know where I can buy it or download it?
I will be checking some of your other references😉

Speaking of Golden Earring, they were fairly obscure except for of course "Radar Love" and "Twilight Zone".
A lot of people don't realize they have been around longer than the "Rolling Stones"!
Barry Hay and George Kooymans were masterful songwriters. They recorded at least 25 Studio albums and quite a few live albums.
Every album had its own personality.
Thier music was very unique and original and they will always be one of my favorite bands!
As far as I know they are still together they released an album a year or two ago " Tits & Ass"
I love Ambrosia, April Wine, Blackfoot, Red Rider, Savoy Brown, Squeeze and Utopia!
I will check out the others.
You are correct bondmanp! I forgot about that one- DUH😠
And by the way one of the best live albums ever recorded in my opinion.
I guess they are not truly obscure. Just underrated and underappreciated the majority.
bdp24,
I understand your reasoning for a hit taking a band out of obscurity. But in the case of Golden Earring, who had two hits in the course of 55 years! From a collection 25 + albums?
This qualifies them for obscurity in my mind.
Everyone has their own definition of obscurity and that's ok😎
Thanks for the input and I will check your references.

Everyone has their own definition of obscurity for sure and that's ok😎

Great list dweller!
I know of about half the bands on your list.
Gentle giant definitely deserved more recognition.
I haven't heard The Tubes mentioned. Formed in 1975 out of San Francisco, they definitely had a different approach. A little rock, a little punk, a little??? And a lot of humor.
I saw these guys live twice and boy did they know how to put on a show( not just play)
They had a couple of minor hits" Talk to Ya Later"and "She's a Beauty". But most people wouldn't have a clue who The Tubes are.

rwwear: I have not heard the remasters of Gentlel Giant but I will definitely check it out.
As far as Haken I absolutely love that band and think they are the best thing in progressive rock in a long time!
Marillion, Porcupine Tree and Steve Hackett are excellent😆
I will definitely be checking your other references!
Thanks for the feedback!
Here is one a lot of Paul Rodgers fans might not know - "The Law". A very solid album from the early 90s! David Gilmour did some of the guitar work on this album.
Also, Paul Thorn, pretty obscure as far as I know. His music is a combination of Rock & country with a little humor mixed in.
Thanks for throwing the link to "The Law" out there nutty. I'm sure ghosthouse ewil appreciate it.

You need to check out the bands on my list that you have not heard of on YouTube or whatever Source you can find them on.
I am pretty sure you will like all or most of them!
I also definitely Echo what nutty says about Spock's Beard! They are one of the most talented group of musicians and songwriters I have ever come across😎
I know the deal ghosthouse,
The first CD I got by  Spock's beard was "Day for Night". I listen to it once or twice and it did not grab me so it's sat on the Shelf.
Then I saw them in concert warming up for Dream Theater and it clicked!
I have loved them ever since.
They have at least 10 and a few live ones. They are all pretty solid.
Just take your time and listen to a variety of their stuff. Don't make a snap decision😎
Buchanan reminds me of Paul Rodgers at times also.
And yes their recordings are not the best.
ghousthouse,
I checked out a little verbena. I love the raw and unpolished sound.
I think you would like Jet and Hero jr. Also
Thanks loomisjohnson!
I just love sharing my music and I am always looking for something new.
Any news suggestions much appreciated😎

I'm sure you probably know at least some of these😎
rwwear,
Check out the rest of the list if you don't know them especially Gamma( Ronnie Montrose)😎
rwwear, is that the same Steven Wilson from Porcupine Tree? I will definitely be looking into it.
Meanwhile you need to check out Gamma 1,2&3 are SOLID and 4 is decent.😎

rwwear, I did not know about Steven Wilson doing all this remixing.
Thanks for the info and by the way I hate "Cookie Monster" vocals😎
Does anyone know The Flower Kings? They are a Swedish prog rock group. They've been around for quite some time, not sure when they got started.
Great music and most of their recordings are excellent😎

rwwear, AWESOME!
So The Flower Kings were the headliners?
Out of 5 Stars how would you rate their live performance?
I don't think I mentioned these guys - Lucifer"s Friend ( John Lawton) an outstanding vocalist!
As far as I know they were pretty obscure, maybe a cult following at the most.
Does anyone remember them?😎
Lucifer's Friend was formed in 1970. They did a couple of albums with another vocalist in the eighties but supposedly they are still active today with Lawton.
Not sure of the date but Lawton released a live album, I believe in the nineties that was excellent!😎
Here is an old band here is an old band that I actually just recently discovered thanks to nutty. "Budgie"
They are a power Trio from the seventies, very Progressive and very original.
I’ve been listening to quite a bit of their stuff and they are great!
Don’t know how missed them but I’m glad I found them!😎
Does anyone know of a band called Dead Soul Tribe?
Very dark and extremely talented musicians. also great recordings!
I don't think they are around anymore but they did at least five or six pretty solid albums.
Here is a couple of my faves😎

Does anyone remember a band from the late seventies - early eighties called Trillion?
They only made two albums but both were great, especially the second one.😎
How about Axis?
It's a Circus World"
Late seventies power trio out of Louisiana.
Straight up Rock and roll😎
rwwear
Here is a link to a song on Lucifer's Friend's  latest album.
Maybe not as good as some of their old stuff but not bad!
John Lawton is 70 years old!
