Sure as with most everything else that is new. Devo said right in the 1970's. We are all de-evolving. A messed up mind creates messed up products

The previews of posts on the pages listing the threads is very annoying. You should be able to scroll thru thread titles without having previews of posts. The need view takes far more time to scroll and makes it harder to see all the threads. People will tire and leave the site and miss threads that are potentially of interest. Should be easy to make an option to toggle between "view thread titles only" vs. "view preview of posts below thread titles". Cheers, Spencer |
I would start with a sort feature allowing viewer to toggle between FIFO, First In First Out, as it is now, to let the screen build starting with the most recent. The idea is whether to sort by most recent posts or more recent threads. This was actually discussed during the early beta and was on the list of things to do for the developers. They implemented a similar concept for the Popular Discussions - Popular All TIme or Popular Recently. They may well come back and add that option for the main threads. If they do, I would like to see it done like Popular Discussions - as an option at the top of the column rather than in the profile. That lets you toggle back and force as desired. |
I worked in the IT department in a big manufacturing company before retirement. I am a veteran of scores of software update rollouts and I can't remember any that didn't have chorus of 'Boo Birds' to lead the charge backwards to wallow forever in their old, outdated, feature-poor software, never bothering to even try to learn what the new software or hardware were all about. Give it a chance. Also, if I were the analyst responsible at Audiogon for this new Forum client, I would look at features available on successful high-traffic websites, and install some of them. I would start with a sort feature allowing viewer to toggle between FIFO, First In First Out, as it is now, to let the screen build starting with the most recent. Perhaps you could keep the value in the profile of logged-in viewers. This change would make it easier to navigate larger threads and would encourage the whole population of viewers to stay interested in them. |
dbear44 - I did a Yahoo search and found appropriate threads on the new forum by including Audiogon in the search. Without including Audiogon, the only hit I got of your list in the first few pages was Audio Review. None of your other examples came up. Search engines work by looking at sites on the Internet and then they index their contents. That may take some time, but I suspect they will catch up to the new site pretty quickly. I doubt the visibility of the new site will be much different than the old site over time. |
True, you can do a search within Audiogon, but if you are doing a general search on, say, yahoo or google and you get several pages of links then why bother. By the time you check out links on other forums- HiFi Engine, Polk, Audio Asylum, Audio Circle, Audio Review, etc then it's on to something else. The old forum has become invisible outside of Audiogon. I hope that this is only temporary and eventually the old links will be updated on the major search engines. |
I have noticed that doing web searches on equipment, the links do not work to Audiogon forum posts. So, I guess we won't be able, at least for now, to have access to those opinions posted here on the old forum. This is REALLY bad news. A typical web search would return links to reviews like Stereophile, 6 Moons, Positive feedack, etc. Also for sale listings in Audiogon, USAudiomart, and ebay. But if you are checking into a piece of equipment you really want folks opinion on forums like Audio Review, Audio Karma, Audio Circle, and the Audiogon Forum is a great resource. Has anyone found links to the NEW forum come up in a search? |

213runnin1 posts12-01-2015 10:51pmI'm ticked. Somehow they totally lost my membership. I've been a member that logs into this forum for 3 years. After the change to the new forum, I couldn't log in. My laptop has my handle and password memorized, and I could not log in.In the past, there were separate passwords for the selling part of the site and the forums. Now, there is only one login. So, if you were using different passwords for the two parts of the site, you now have to use the one for the selling part of the site. No sure, but that may be what you are seeing. |
jea481,916 posts12-01-2015 10:36p Yes. The changed the sorting time. |
I'm ticked. Somehow they totally lost my membership. I've been a member that logs into this forum for 3 years. After the change to the new forum, I couldn't log in. My laptop has my handle and password memorized, and I could not log in. I spent about a 1/2 hour trying to create a new name and rejoining, even though I new I'd have no access to my past posts, etc. Finally I did what I HATE to do, and signed in using that weird paypal thing. It still didn't accept my original handle. Has anyone else experienced this, because I'm ready to punt this forum. |
No markup tag - but I did have to copy and paste. Just hit the quote button and then paste. A button would be better, but this works. Thanks dtc, i've worked out how to use that feature now, though it is kind of clunky. As you said, a button attached to posts would be better. Another thing, you can no longer see in posts if a member has a system thread like you used to be able to. AG should also allow you to post a signature. Even low end forums allow that. Hopefully AG are listening. |
