Sutherland Dos Locos Dual Mono Phonostages Glad you are enjoying the Dos! It is good to know the Umami Red does well with it. The Blue works a treat also. The Benz TR is a recent one I tried, and is pretty incredible with the Dos as well, unlocking so much emotion. All while being very res...
SUT help Using low impedance MC carts, I would highly recommend looking into a Sutherland Engineering SUTZ. Which is a step up transimpedance unit made to replace the internal solutions of your favorite phono preamps. Just put this between the cartridge an...
Speaker that are 'KEEPERS" for the long haul!!! Keepers I still currently use: Joseph Audio Pearl 3 Altec Flamenco (with upgraded crossovers) JBL L220 (with upgraded crossovers) The Joseph give you everything audiophile on a plate, while sounding tonally beautiful. They also give the most b...
Solid State Phono Stages Another recommendation for Sutherland Transimpedance designs. Just transcending in all aspects. For me, it was revolutionary in that my poor recordings became amazing! It really gets to the heart of the recordings. Any in the lineup exhibit this b...
When choosing new Speakers, what matters most to you? Measurements to me have some meaning, but I would seek out speakers that have a known good reputation for good performance in most rooms in the real world, over measurements. I read allot of success stories about Devore Fidelity regarding. I also ...

Solid state amplifiers and sound stage, especially front to back "depth" In general, and in my experience, solid state does depth great. Tubes do too, but overall, I do find that tube amps give a bigger sound stage all around, particularly scale of artists and in sound stage width. That said, I am sure there are varyin...
Anybody added a full vinyl setup to system? And? I have been back and forth. In my system, I cannot fault digital, as it sounds very nice, neat, impressive, organic, and seemingly close to perfect even? With my prior phono stages and turntables, I could like/dislike things about digital and viny...
How important is a Linear Power Supply Versus a Switcyed one? That price for a good linear supply is really a great deal IMO. Plus, the ability to help support what I believe to be a very excellent designer.
Joseph Audio Pulsars with REL Sub or Perspectives in 11x11 Room? ""Mine are about 2 feet off the wall with 2’x4’ 2inch thick absorption panels behind.""This was the exact setup I had with my Perspectives when I had them. Worked very well. However, the Pulsar is a little monster, and may even satisfy you without...
Curious what people think is the best "value" high end speaker (~5K to 15K) Another vote for Joseph Audio. The Pulsar and Perspective are both now in mk2 Graphene!
Absolute top tier DAC for standard res Redbook CD You really cannot go wrong with either one of the two in my mind. One is much more reasonably priced though!!!!
Absolute top tier DAC for standard res Redbook CD FPGA "controlled" fully discrete DAC is where its at. Make all things as good as possible from a simplistic and overkill engineering standpoint, and you only have a couple DAC's to choose from IMO. But you better be ready to get your wallets out.
Why does my DAC sound so much better after upgrading digital SPDIF cable? Steve is not wrong. He is a very qualified engineer IME. He knows what all the problems in the entire system are, and how to solve them. I had the SMR with the latest improvements. I sold it because my Server is better, and of course, more conveni...
My recent experience with 3 pre-amps - help me pinpoint the next upgrade. Sounds like you have outgrown the downfalls of a volume control. Try yourself a Wyred 4 Sound STP of a sort if you can trial one. There are VERY few preamps that keep the dynamics fun and the event the same size when even very quiet. |
