Mountain and Cactus

Not a bad cut on Nantucket Sleighride.

”The Great Train Robbery” is awesome. 

Two good bands, to be sure, but not in the same league with Cream and Led Zep IMHO.

I saw Leslie West playing in The Vagrants (on a Les Paul Jr., iirc), pre-Mountain. He came out onto the Fillmore stage wearing a mesh cape covered in bird feathers. Quite a sight!

Jim McCarty is still active and touring.
Leslie West once said he thought he was a really good guitarist until he saw Eric Clapton.  Jack Bruce when reflecting on the the great guitar players he worked with said West was the best to play with.

"Theme from an Imaginary Western" and "Nantucket Sleighride," what beautiful music.

And of course "Mississippi Queen" has been an anthem for every garage band, including mine.

Saw Mountain December 1973 and it's a contributing factor as to why my ears ring. Corky Laing on drums  and David Perry on rhythum when I saw them.

Finally real rock´n´roll here : )

MOUNTAIN Twin Peaks live at Koseinenkin Hall, Osake August 30 1973 has the heaviest, fuzziest & fattest bass sound captured on record. There is no-one like Felix Pappalardi and his Gibson violin bass. Colossal sound. Heavy stuff man.

Felix Pappalardi is the most underrated musician and producer in American rock music and culture and has the most beautiful voice from a man in the business. He produced Cream and Jack Bruce´s best solo album.
His singing on "Theme from an Imaginary Western" is the finest version of them all. Period.

Cactus - the masters of heavy metal boogie. There are couple of live recording from they prime released recently... gotta have them too !

I always liked the Cactus take on Parchman Farm - quite the jam! Can't go wrong tapping into some old Bukka White.

Cactus - "Big Mama Boogie"! Yeah Baby! Mountain Rocks as well...

Big fan of Mountain in their heyday- saw them open for Tull right before Aqualung was released. Cactus- have their early albums, not as familiar with their work. 

I saw Zeppelin 4 times only saw Cream once but have to say these two bands could hold there own with them. 

  Check out Cactus One Way Or Another it’s my fav.
