Hmmm, let's see. Not one. Here's the list:
** She strongly considered only looking at houses that had a good candidate for a dedicated listening room (which we got last year).
** She agreed to go ahead with my plan to sell the 36" TV and buy a front projector. (which we both enjoy)
** She suggested I upgrade to bigger maggies (speakers) as a birthday present, which we did. We auditioned and picked them up in person at an audiongoner's home.
** She still thinks I need to upgrade my turntable and phonostage. I think this is really just because she tired of listening me complain about my current front end. So the idea is I need to upgrade to something that will last me for quite a while.
For the most part I'm a responsible husband who doesn't go into debt funding this obsession, so as a result she let me indulge to my heart's content. :)
Plus she collects Dolls and those can be expensive too!
And for those who inquired to me via private email, no I haven't gotten that chair upgrade yet. |

I had done quite a few upgrades this year. So, when my wife decided we needed a new sofa, who was I to argue. I just hadn't counted on a leather sectional that cost more than my first new car...
Still, it does look pretty cool in the den / HT. And it's very comfortable. |

Boa2: I don't know what to do with this woman! I'll tell you what to do: renew your vows. Well as a single young guy, I've decided to get my system perfect first, and add the tweak of a wife later. I make it pretty well known to anyone I date how much I'm into music and listening to my rig and how much time inovlved with the gear (I try to leave the money part out of it...seems tacky). Some of the ladies who've been able to stand me for more than one evening (and who I could convince to come back to my place without the cave-man approach) are pretty into it. Can you married blokes speak from experience in that, will it be the case that they tolerate it now, or think it's cute/interesting, but I'll all of a sudden be selling gear for that "cute new bose radio" down the line because it matches the drapes better? Hmm..maybe being single isn't so bad after all. Actually, forget that, I'm going to see if the Agon people want to partner on a dating site for audiophiles. HAH! |

Yes, I know, but I looking for a fully balanced design to go with my all BAT system. That's what I meant by looking for certain ones. I have a list of requirements on top of my wife's no naked toobs requirement. |

Lots of good amps out there with concealed tubes: Audio Note, Audiomat, VAC, Rogue, Tom Evans, etc. Also, many of the Canary models have them in the back, out of sight. A friend had some nice-looking cages built for his as well.

My greatest WAF is that I've never owned a tube amp. That's right, it's not something that I've owned and had to get rid of. She's made it very clear that tubes are FUGLY. So I have tubes hidden in my front end, but there's no way of hiding power tubes in the amps that I've looked at. I know there are tube amps out there with hidden tubes, but I'm not just going to buy any tube amp. I'm only interested in certain ones.
I've owned some very good solid state amps, so I'm not complaining. She doesn't much complain about the $$$ or time that I spend on my hobby. One day I'll get the boys out of the house and be able to set up my own dedicated listening room, then WAF won't enter into the equation. The dedicated listening room is the key. |

Fortunately, I needed a better room, so it was not that difficult to decide. |

i sold a harley once so my wife could upgrade her bed room set to solid oak, good thing i had a spare in the garage :)
if i had to though i would sell all the gear & bikes without a second thought if my family needed the cash,i hope it never come's to that but ya never know.

I've gotten rid of two different pairs of speakers, a pair of Soliloquy 6.2's because the wood veneer clashed with our furniture, this was when we first moved in together several years ago. The second time just a few months ago when we bought our first home, a small downtown condo, I had to sacrifice my Alon Lotus' since they were too tall. Luckily I was able to trade them for a pair of JMlabs Micro-Utopias, easily the best sounding speakers I've ever owned, and a pair of speakers that are incredibly easy to drive. |
