Is my power chord going bad?

It should NEVER touch anyway. 101 cables routing. When the cables are routed correctly you will have ZERO noise. Off the ground off each other cross at 90 degrees. I use as little shielding as possible. It KILLS the dynamics of a system if your not careful.. Routing is a LOT better alternative.

There is a place for shielding.. The right kind is more important than just having shielding. Cable construction (weaves) are quiet because of construction, not shielding..

Right on. They don't touch regularly it was just something that happened that I noticed. I definitely know cables shouldn't touch.

Says more about the shielding on your phono cable.

The correct shielding in the right place.

So the question becomes, are all your interconnects the same make and model, or is the one running from the one on your phono pre different?

Why would you want to touch your power cable with your interconnect cable?

Which part of the IC are you using to touch the PC?

My phono cable from turntable to phono pre (Audio Sensibility impact SE) is different from the rest of my interconnects (Vintage Western Electric). My next cable upgrade will be to all Audio Sensibility cables through the system.

I didn’t want to touch the cables it just happened by accident and that is when I noticed the hum. The vintage western electric is a simple cloth sheathing however there is no noise when I use a different power cable and try the same experiment. Hence the question of the power cable being the cause of this and if that indicates a faulty cable. Hope this clarifies.

The cables touched near the center of their runs. It is a high current cable for use with amplifiers.

Is your power cord going bad? No it is the same as it was.

Shield your phono cables, shield your power cable.  The end.

Dump the fancy cord and just use regular cord.

Rearrange the gear.

Buy shorter cables.

Phono cables should be nowhere near, and should not be able to get near, any power cord.

Might be flat.  Or sharp.
