Import duties are happening

Ok great, you paid the custom dutie and you get reimbursed. Whats the point of creating a thread? Are you the first person to ever pay a customs dutie?

@hbarrel  what was the declared value of the item and what were the Customs Duties?

@rsf507 Custom duties were 10.5% of the declared value. I do not care to share the declared value. 

I recently bought two quads of "gently used" 6sn7s from PCX.  Before I closed the deal I exchanged some emails with them and they told me no tariffs on stuff under a certain value.  (I think $850?)  But there was a charge when my credit card bill came; it wasn't an arm and a leg, and it wasn't from PCX so I guess it must have been "import duties."  I paid the bill and didn't follow up with anyone on it, but I'll be careful what I order from now on.

I thought you might take it that way, it was just a straightforward question, not sarcasm. I did wonder though if you may be feeding the trolls who haunt the forums looking for opportunities to spew their politics.

Customs duties have been around forever but they seem to have been selectively charged..I've paid duties on 3 different occasions over the last 6 years,twice on a high end watch & once on Chinese audio gear & it was always Fed Ex who charged them..Never had DHL or UPS hit me for import tax..
 Only recently have import fees become de facto..If you've never been hit for import tax count yourself lucky & accept the fact that those days are over....

The only reason I even caught that I had been charged is that it showed up in the column where interest and late fee shows up.  I never carry a balance or pay late so I looked twice at that.  Otherwise I may have never even noticed it.

@charliee +1 ! Ha ha that’s good. FWIT I bought a pair of speakers 2 days ago from a manufacturer in Utah, there were zero tariffs. As a matter of fact they weren’t even taxed. There used to be another well regarded equipment manufacturer that lives between you and me, they just fled SoCal for Texas. We live in a state that can’t build a dam or fix a road. The firearms that I bought legally here in the 80’s , I can’t have here now and reside in Oregon with my Class III  stuff that I can only own having a gun trust. My son in law is a fighter pilot in Lemoore and has access to Stinger missiles, but was denied purchase of a box of 12guage ammo at Sportsman’s Warehouse. I’m retired law enforcement with a background in prison and street gang intelligence and watch Ca’s supermajority put people in danger to glean voters. Then we get to hear  “ Yoni Boy “ talk caustic KAKA and close with “ All the Best “. My wife retires in 3 weeks and she’s flying to Floribama the week after to visit our daughter and look around. The bright spot is she’s an educator and I’m retired Public Safety and our 2 state based tax payer funded pensions are about $250k per year. So we are going to move to a state with no state income tax to spend out our time sucking $250k tax free from California entail we expire. I registered to vote in 1975 and back then the Socially Enlightened Democrats actually represented people that had Union trade jobs. So I guess I can spew my poop and close with “ All the Best “.
