How much does your system retail for?

$23,000 - $24,000 I estimate. (Two channel, this does not include TV, VCR, etc.)

Please, keep the exagerations to a minumum, do not count CD's, equipment you have bought and sold, is packed away that you don't use anymore, etc..

Put the total first so it shows up at the begining of your post.

This is just for fun and curiosity of the diversity on here, don't take it to seriously. Simply evaluate what the retail value of your system is.

About 25k. Congratulations on this thread - it is, in my opinion, hands down the most amusing I've seen yet! It has activated everyone's sense of humor, especially the self-deprecating, and that's a good thing.
25025 +tax for 2-channel and add 17230+tax to round up to 5.1 channel. Zero show-off included. I probably paid about 20 % less than the total mentioned above. I wish I new about audiogon befor I bought the stuff from dealer. I have no plans for upgrade in near future. Am very happy with the system.
~$ 7,000 retail, paid 4,300 due to used speakers (Meadowlark H.R. Shearwaters), and a good deal on a new integrated amp, Cary sli80, budget cables & wires, (DH Labs silver sonic), and a "cheap" CD player, Marantz cd63se, which is the next thing to be replaced, which will put my new reatail value ~ 8 or 9K. And my friends think I'M crazy! I've got about 25% of my $$ in CD's.
At 3AM this morning it retailed for about $210K, what with the Avalon Osiris, tri-amped with Mark Levinson 33H mono's and that ML32 pre driven by the dual Accuphase combo, with colid gold cables everywhere...

...and then my wife woke me up, she was concerned about the noises and stuff :)
I DO have tha Avalon Osiris speakers and Rowland 9Ti's, etc. Almost all has been bought demo or used through Audiogon. Retail is around 155 K before cabling. Add to that 25K for the HT system, which is integrated. Now consider the room that I'm designing and the eventual front digital projector, and I also hope that my wife doesn't read this. Luckily. the actual dollars spent are much, much lower.

David
I was wondering, has this thread been started so we can be blackmailed to keep this information from being revealed to our significant others?????
I'm at 25K now and will be adding about 10K to biamp and add more room treatment.
This is retail value and not what I actually spent. $90K for equipment starting from two separate AC lines for a Phono only source two-channel system through speakers. Another $15K is tied up in Line Level preamp and CD player in main system. $20K is in HT setup and $15K for multi-room system. Thank God for getting consulting/barter arrangements, deep discounts and buying used from fellow audiophiles. Like Metaphics I use a spreadsheet, but is intended for self-control and saner behavior (relative term) in dealing with the enhancement bug.
not including cabling or stands, i'm at 35k for my main system. but, as out-of-pocket costs are *only* 13k, i don't really feel so bad. and, of course, this has been a gradual ting - one of my current subwoofer amps was my main amp back in '85... ;~)

doug *bargain-hunter* sedon

Damn, looking at all the previous posts is really a humbling experience, although my guts tell me that in a few years I will be joining the "HOLY #@(&*$! DID I REALLY SPEND ALL THAT?!" club.

BTW, I probably have the most "affordable" primary two-channel system here...total retail value $4555, not including misc. costs (shipping, tax)
Doug: We are called "pot lickers" where I hail from. My current main system retails for $6500. I paid a little over $3000 for it. I also have another $2000 (actual outlay) in items that are either being produced at this time, will be ordered within the next few weeks or that have not yet been installed into the system, so I guess that it will be an $8500 system by the end of next month. Right now it is the second most musical system that I have ever owned (might be the first if the room allowed it) and it is an SET/digital based setup that is not a full range system. Cabling (wires alone and not conditioning) will come in at around 20% of the retail price of the entire system and isolation components and the equipment rack will account for approx. 10% of the total system's retail when it is fully completed (two additional shelves are not included in these totals). I find these ratios to be quite reasonable though I did not really take them into consideration when putting the system together. I have also had a lot of fun assembling this one, especially with the little SET which is a new experience for me.
Wow! I am going to have to leave this site and go to audioreview.com. Does anybody have a small or apartment friendly system? Mgs, my system retails for around $4500 Cdn. so we should go stand in the corner and watch the big kids play.
My good ol friend Fabio called me and said if he had enough room for a computer he would have responded himself but wanted to say to you all " I spit on all your cheap systems, I have spent close to a million dollars on my huge Krells and Martin Logans" He also wanted to say that he still cannot believe its not butter.
$5200 retail, paid about $3000 used. 73% speakers, about 1/2 of 1% for cabling. Have had thousand of dollars worth of gear stolen.
Heh I thought that Fabio said "I can't believe it's not BETTER"(well the stereo at least). sorry I could not resist.
Hey Wirehead,
At least we have a corner of our own (the "Affordable Corner", sounds like S. Tellig's column in Stereophile). But hey, remember that it's how much our system enable us to enjoy music that really matters, isn't it? I also have a small/apartment system, which partially explains the affordability of it; could you post or e-mail me privately your setup so we can do a little knowledge exchange? My system is composed of Adcom CDP/Morrison ELAD/Audiosource Amp2/NHT VT1.2/MIT T2, and I listen to mostly jazz...
To Stevemj, I am sorry to hear about what happened to your audio gear...perhaps you can use this opportunity to build that dream system that you always wanted!
What would all you guys say if I let out my secret. My system was bought on credit cards, which turned in to almost free when my chapter 7 filing was approved and discharged 4 months ago? Nothing to be proud about but it was by no means planned. The bull market (bear for me) daytrading of 99 turned me in.
Brian; my first Rx was not to post on this thread-- maybe embarassed as Kelly noted, or maybe a little paranoid? But many more expensive systems than mine are out there-- and by a LOT-- i don't feel so dumb anymore:>). $40K in main rig including wires, acoustic stuff, stands etc., another $5K in accessories like CD Recorder, cassette recorder etc. And a second system of about $10K. My DNA2 amps are in for upgrade to Rev. A as I type. There, I feel better-- thanks. Cheers. Craig
Hmmm... more than I thought. Or as my Swiss cousin was fond of saying - "Too much"

Main audio system - $98,490 - of course, I probably only spent 1/3 of this (God bless Audiogon).

If you add the home theatre, that's another $27,000.

Software, however - that's where the big bucks come in.
My system is at $17,000 now. I guess this is humble compared do some of the hot shots here, but what scares me is the rate I've been spending on it. In July of last year, I started with a $3,500 system, and have been sqandering my hard earned cash on upgrades since then. It's worth it though, right? I'm now only pursuing upgrades on low-key power cords and such, just so my girlfriend won't notice.
I have the exactly same problem with Outlier. Only 3 months ago, my system was worth $5000. Now it's well over $17000. Constant "upgrading"-- Some worthwhile, some not. And I CAN'T STOP!!! If my wife saw my posting, she'll surely strangle me in my sleep. I need some professional help.
$11,000+ for my main stereo system. $4000+ for my multi-room system (not counting all the $$ in IR controls for each room). $4500 for my HT (a very small system with a 27" TV in our living room, I will upgrade to about a $10,000 system when our HT is done in a basement re-model) Not counting cables, wire, cabinets etc. Oh and about $12000 in un-used compents that I need to sell when I get around to it, and if I can bare to do it that is. And I just got rid of $1000 worth last month. I just got my main system set up just the way I wanted to today (UPS came) and I already have plans tomorrow to start over with a new pre-amp. This time it will be a minimal system, with much higher quality componets. I am tired of all the wires and black boxes. But it won't be cheaper! Wheeeeeeeeee!!!!!
I am considering a new thread - Where do you live and when do you go on vacation? ;-)
$39,400.00 2 channel & $10,500 home theater & I keep a detailed list with dates purchased to try to justify my updates to myself.
As i read through the posts here, another "brilliant" ( ???? ) idea popped into my head.... A new thread soon to appear... Sean
>
I'[m one of the small fish in this pond. My system is around $11,000. I have at 3 times that amount in cd's, plus a small handful of albums.
Around 12,000 for 2 channel and 12,000 for theater, but i am going to combine, wifes orders.
I saw a comment on a different thread relative to a Cello Suite that kind of struck a chord (pun intended)...

At what point does further investment cross that thin line into trophy hunting territory?

I can make my meager $6k stystem sound alot better, I'll admit. I don't believe, however, that a final price tag of over $100,000 is going to give me $94,000 worth of added enjoyment.

Heck, for $100k you could hire a Mariachi band to come by every weekend for a few years...sorry if this is a sour note for any of you...
My audio-only system comes in for a shade less than Albertporter's right channel. And I'd stack my whole system against his right channel anyday.
If you stack it against my right channel, it may topple over, crushing you. Be careful!
This thread just made me pull all the receipts to figure how addicted to this hobby I have become. Seen some negative threads, but like any other hobby we spend the $$$ to strive for satisfaction, I say to each their own. Its only money and we can't take it with us when we go, so if it puts a smile on your face spend it. Retail for my system is $18,050, out of pocket I spent $10,200(did not include tv/vcr, are a bit old). Did lots of research so I do 2ch/HT on the same system with exceptional results. Another $10k out of pocket and system will be complete. Need seperate pre to get best out of my 2ch(looking to get bat vk30) and move the aerius i to rear and put cls up front. The setup now I smile every time I listen to 2ch or Ht. Always shopping for a bargain.
$18,335 for 2 channel. I paid $8,295. However, I own two Dat decks and a CDR recorder. If you include 2 mic's and a mic pre-amp it would add $2,200 and $1,400 respectively. But then aagin more cables, blah, blah , blah.
Holy Shit I added it up this time not just an estamite I was way off! I am actually a little over 30k and climbing it was a shock to me. I did not think it was that much!
DANGER!ENCODE THESE POSTS.MY WIFE READ THEM,YRs SHOULDN'T BE FAR BEHIND!!! ...and, I had to answer the question: 45k, a "steal" compared to others here. GOD BLESS YOU, Qgap, Jtinn, Albert, Khrys & others over 100k, for saving my skin (for now; do i see the jeweller beconing??)
errr... that's *beckoning*, ofcourse. (Ran out of Ks in the previous thread)
Man, I forgot my subwoofer, speaker cables and CD player. That brings the totals to $21,735 and $8,845, respectively.
While I personally don't have a johnson..... to compare, damn.......(Scott, I was thinking EXACTLY the same thing about that point in the thread - your post was PeFEcT! I always heard that you guys did stuff like that... .did you REaLLY? ), we did just add up our gear and like you, Tim - Holy Cow (as Harry Cary used to say) Over 60K in both the 2 channel system and the HT system.
JD, come on, make a spreadsheet, hurt a little - see what it really iS !
I was surprised to find that the cost of my HT and my 2 channel were both $35,000+. That was two weeks ago. I've had a good two weeks. More to follow.
$196,850.00 for 2-channel; $43,300 for h/t, now i see what my wife is complaining about. who knows how much more for the software. this sure as hell better be fun!
4361.95 for 2-channel, 2256 HT. Less than 2000 actual in the 2 channel. I guess that makes me low man on the totem pole. Congratulations, Albert. Sorry, wirehead and mgs.
about $22,000 and growing but thanks to this site only about $14500 out the door so far, unless you count the house that had the room that i just had to have to put it in...then it gets ugly.
for those of you scoring at home, the current average is:
$45,915.
Next thread, what's the ratio of your systems retail to your net worth.
I don't think we'll see 100 posts on that one.
Am I allowed to post in this heady company? My system would retail for $4400 but who pays retail? I get great sounds, even though my system is so "modest". Of course, of course even in this range most friends wouldn't think of spending so much on a system. On the other hand, I think 20k is nuts to spend on a car. Different priorities.
Kitch, thanks for the stat. With help from Psgary, this makes me just about average --- a great excuse for getting my next ruinous investment (power amps) past my very significant other, etc.
Cheers!
