Favorite Female vocals that give you goose bumps

My current favorites are Eva Cassidy's "The water is wide" and "Autumn Leaves", Kiki Dee's "Take my breath away" and Ella Fitzgerald's "Angel eyes" and "Lush life".

Give a listen to Rumer! She reminds me so much of Karen Carpenter but with a bit more weight to her effortless vocals.
Another vote for Karen Carpenter as well, also Joan Osborne song 'What you are" and many of Martina McBride tunes.
Thanks very much, Tubegroover. Will do.

I've seen her live in concert once, about 20 years ago in New Haven, CT, performing various classical songs. One of the most exceptional concerts I've ever attended.

Best regards,

Hi Al

Many years back A friend gave me a copy of "Kiri sings Gershwin" released in 1989 on EMI Classics. For a really different presentation of Gershwin standards from an operatic singer, you might want to check it out.
Dame Kiri Te Kanawa, O Mio Babbino Caro
(title of the video clip is misspelled).

Or for an example of her singing something non-operatic, Climb Every Mountain
(don't miss her remarkable 13 second last note).

Regards,

She's been mentioned quite a few times already, but listen to Linda Rondstadt doing `Adios', a song written by Jimmy Webb with Brian Wilson producing and providing backing vocals (Cry Like a Rainstorm album). The final note that she hits always sends shivers up my spine, it is just so good.
Sena Ehrhardt. I heard "Last Chance" from the "Leave the Light On" release and it moved me. Quite a looker, too! The guitar (her father Edward)is excellent as well.
The new rising megastar from Africa: Fatoumata Diawara !
She will be touring through the U.S. next month, so check this out.
Also check out Leslie Feist singing on Kings of Convenience album "Riot on an Empty Street". The track I am thinking of is "parallel lines"...beautiful
Maddie Pryor (Steeleye Span) and Annie Haslam (Renaissance, particularly on "Ashes Are Burning" ).
Jennifer Nettles singing 'hello' with Lionel Ritchie. I have the CD 'Tuskegee'. After hearing her I had to SEE her, so I followed O-10's advice went to youtube. WOW! The way she took the stage, just great, and she is a stone Fox also.
TransNova: Linda Rondstadt is a George Massenburg recording-he is one of the best there is. He builds his own gear (I sell it to studios) and it defines "transparent" in pro audio world. Look up his other recordings-all of them fantastic. Like Dawn Langstroth (Anne Murray's daughter), he recorded a lot of live. Look her up on you tube to see George sitting in the middle of the track space mixing.
Tubegroover, thanks so much for that heartfelt sentiment(and for a very big bellylaugh).
If there is one song and performance that comes to mind that gives me goosebumps almost every time I hear it, it would have to be Kate Smith singing "God Bless America"
Jane Relf - the lead singer for the original incarnation of the group Renaissance, and later the group Illusion (and sister of Kieth Relf). I've mentioned her her before though and get the impression I'm the only one who is so impressed by her.

Of those previously named - here are some I really, really like:
Eva Cassidy, Julie London,Amy Lee, Lisa Gerrard, Margo Timmins
Grace Potter, Alison Krauss, Maria Muldaur, Amy Lee,(lead singer Evanescence)and Bonnie Raitt, as well as most others mentioned.
Although I can think of many favorites by Carmen McRae, I'll pick three: "And I Love Him"; "Yesterdays", and "The Shadow of Your Smile".
kd lang's voice breaking on Halleluia

Anna McGarrigle's ethereal voice joining sister Kate on Heart like a Wheel
Linda Ronstadt--Trouble Again. Listen for "The Note" as she sings "I was blind" holding "blind" for about nine seconds.
Amazing!
I thought Adele singing 'Someone Like You' on the Brit Awards last week was pretty special indeed. Just getting into the new album now. I hope it lives up to expectations.
Sarah Brightman, mentioned here once between the lines. Some sound effects added by the mixing engineers though to create that "big" vocals. Great voice nonetheless.

I'm very late to this thread, but Montserrat Caballe singing Casta Diva was and is simply amazing.

Lidia Borda, the Argentine Tango singer will do it for goosebumps as well
Lizz Wright, the deft of lyrical content sung with such heartfelt emotional expression makes it hard not to be moved when she sings. Her latest album "Fellowship" will stir, move and uplift you. All her albums are very good to great. My Favorite is "The Orchard". It is an instant classic that really lets you feel what Ms. Wright is saying.
Has anyone mentioned Neko Case? Goose bumps aplenty. I think she is our modern day Patsy Cline. Great songs, beautiful and powerful voice, check her out!
Wouldn't be surprised if this thread never ended. Good
one Arwp. For me, it would be Mary Fahl.
Oh yeah check out Deborah Brown.Great American singer who is little known.Find her "Jazz For Jazz: recording with American ex-pats Horace Parlan,Ed Thigpen, and Red Mitchell (take a listen at AMG or Amazon).Had another great LP "Eurboppin'" but impossible to find (almost) on Alfa Jazz.Great singeing, great bands.Shame she needed to make career in Europe and is not known here.

Kelly Clarkson in "My Life Would Suck Without You".

Saw her perform that during the pre-game show prior to last night's Viking's vs Saints game.
