Experiences Selling Stuff On Audiogon?

Selling on Audigon has been a very good experience assuming you don't mind giving them their %. Definitely a higher-end location to advertise.

AGON as a platform is just fine, but there are other audio forums that are as good or better IMO. Think CANUCKAUDIOMART and USAUDIOMART. In addition to a comparable reach, they won’t dip into your pocket for a cut of the sales proceeds.

I’ve had a few AGON deals with no complaints and 51 EZPZ flawless deals to date on CAM/ USAM ….And no IRS income tax reporting for the latter.

Vetting all prospective buyers vis-a-vis their posted positive feedback (or not…) in any audio forum listing is key. There are many “problem” types out there …. Yes, they DO walk among us.

I don't know why people bash eBay. I have done over 5000 transactions in over 20 years, (as a seller) in many categories with only 6 minor problems. Since you are a newbie, with no feedback, it might be a bit of a challenge getting your feet wet here. I certainly would try it though.

No problems with Audiogon per se, but plenty of problems with shipping companies damaging items.

I concur it’s better than ebay. Ebay uses funky algorithms that "take dive" deep into audits and if you are unlucky (very most likely could be your personal information that matches with past problems that could occur to someone else), you will get problems from digital bugs that will REALLY BITE HARD your account to the point of eating it to the bare bones. My 33 years in IT clearly see that especially with new Ebay accounts. New accounts always get BASHED for reason or no reason by those audit algorithms and are very hard to develop to the stable performance even before you get any feedback.

Prefer USAM reasonable fees and high traffic. 

How about TMRAUDIO.com?

Way back in the day audiogon was the best place to sell. Honest hobbyists, great deals it was more like a library of audio products you could buy try and resell without much loss. Now all have to get a cut of your sales $$ scammers abound, and many of the good folks left while the rest stayed. I don’t sell here anymore.

I've bought and sold on Agon and USAM for years and even bought a few times on eBay, and I've not had any problems with any transactions. 

+1 @jayctoy   TMRaudio will market and sell your items on consignment.It's well worth the reasonable fee for not having to deal with scammers or shipping damage claims.And yes,back in the day it was easy and fun buying and selling here.

all these sales platforms have user data and feedback, so it behooves one to look at that, see the track record of whom they are dealing with

I stopped using Useless Audio Mart since I kept getting rogue buyers who never responded to my acceptance of their offers or they never paid after they told me the payment was upcoming.  Yes, AG charges a lot but you get what you pay for.  At AG and Ebay if you make a formal offer it is considered a contract, rightly so.

I've never had a problem with a transaction on USAM and I've bought and sold quite a few times. There are plenty of tire kickers of course, but that's the case everywhere.

Here or USAM are both just fine.  Treat people the way you would want to be treated and you should do well.  However, there are always potential risks that have been well-covered in these threads, like shipping big speakers.  There is a lot you can read and learn here.

Gon 👍🏼, especially for high end equipment. eBay was disappointing.

I know Ebay is terrible, but how has your experience selling gear on Audiogon been? I have some stuff that’s too high-end for the market I live in, and so I gotta cast the net wider. Not looking forward to the potential hassle

Ebay and audiogon are terrible... they both have really high selling fees and customer service at audiogon is particularly poor. They were purchased by a group out of South Carolina a few years ago and have gone downhill ever since then. A lot of people are leaving this site.

What I don't understand is that AM and for quite a while Audiogon did not charge any fees. How do/did they exist? Where did the revenue come from for operating costs?

Today, if AM can function with no fees why can't Audiogon?

As of now there are 8,943 ads on AudiogoN and they support a forum. AudioMart USA has 10,844 ads on now with no forum. Not all ads are free.

I just sold two items through US Audiomart and have bought several items there too. It's always been a great experience and no fees.

Also have bought through Agon with no issues but never sold. Everyone I know locally primarily uses the former.
