These people are thieves. I have purchased 2 lps that I have not received. I also had one I returned because is was seriously warped and have not received the replacement. They suckered me in with decent discounts but never sent the product. No response to emails or phone calls. They immediately charge your CC claiming it is for security reasons so the CC info cannot be stolen because they do not keep it on file. They pocket the money and do not send any product.
Difficulty with SoundStageDirect
First, I find Seth to have always been friendly and very helpful. However, I have observed companies having serious financial issues in the past and I have to believe that they may also be having significant difficulties. I ordered a VPI Avenger mid-May. I have been sending a multitude of inquiries to Soundstage with absolutely no response regarding my turntable order. Hence, I sent VPI an e-mail questioning why it is taking them over two months to fill my order (via Soundstage Direct) for the Avenger turntable. I was advised by VPI that they did not receive this order and that there are a multitude of other customers on the same boat...obviously sinking. I believe I paid cash so I do not have PayPal to fall on for a dispute. I do have some other options but won’t discuss. I recommend that you should avoid purchasing equipment from Soundstage unless you can physically be there to pick it up. They appear to be in serious financial difficulty. I hope I am wrong but I don’t think I am.

I did the Preorder for The Rolling Stones box set early June. Set was to release June 15. I still don’t have them. After 4 weeks I sent email and was contacted promptly. “We are behind on stock and continue to fill orders as they were received”. They offered to refund. If I refund I’ll lose nearly $100 discounted preorder price on something I really want. I may hold out a little longer but am getting antsy after reading this thread |
Agreed that a company such as this should be avoided. Thank you for the leads as I now need to purchase another turntable system. I am in touch with my cc company as I now have determined that I used a card...just need to see if it was used as a debit or credit. I hope credit. An yes, many people say how great Seth was, and perhaps he is a very nice person at heart...but he kept taking orders while the boat was apparently sinking. Suspect his business ownership days are numbered. |
I don't use this company for my orders. However any company that behaves in this manner should be avoided. For VPI TT and components I work with Bob from Bob's devices. Another quality company is Music Direct in Chicago. Albert Porter is another for Allnic equipment. In general I like dealing with small operations with a long history and who specialize in a narrow range of components. These are companies you can talk to and who always respond quickly. A good test is speed of response when you inquire. |
I quit ordering vinyl from them months ago as it simply took too long to receive it. I did think they had good discounts on specific lps and had some harder to find rock. Sorry to hear about their financial state. I still get emails from them re: equipment and have looked at their used VPI tables a couple times. |
I’ve also had issues with SSD in the past... last September I ordered a VPI Prime Signature from them paid on full, luckily on my AMEX, then It was radio silence for about 6-7 weeks. After that period I kept calling every single day till I got an answer. It was one story after another and finally after two and a half months, mid November I told them to just credit my card and cancel the order and if they did not do so immediately I would be contacting AMEX. Two days later I received a call saying my table had finally come in and if I was still interested they would sell it to me at a discount. I told them no thank you and have not done business with them since |
OK, sorry jimmy. Your intention was honorable, but your answer above was a bit gruff... Those who focus on “cash” are a bit misguided. If I paid in rubies and diamonds what is the difference? I may still be screwed. And you might be living in the dark ages as you don’t need to live next door to pay cash!!! Your comments at "Steve Hoffman" were very informative with no hostility toward the members. I'm still reeling from your thread attacking the fine members of this website... https://forum.audiogon.com/discussions/thank-you-for-being-such-a-closed-snobbish-group-of-people This thread was removed at the request by several members. After reading your comments at Steve Hoffman I now know your anger is justified and is directed at SSD. |

If you paid by credit card, you are affording consumer protection and will get you money back. |
Interesting post from a former SSD employee who created an account esrlier this morning on a SH forum (don’ know how to post link) to provide a first person status update. Bottom line...you are not wrong. http://forums.stevehoffman.tv/threads/anyone-ordered-recently-from-soundstagedirect.725078/page-8 |
