For those of you who had spent over hundred thousand dollars for your sound system. Nothing has really changed in my perspecitve from my very first foray into high-end to now. It is very important to audition equipment/speakers before purchasing. Then, purchase what sounds good to you! I feel it is a "progressive" hobby. In my ea...
Which Harbeths? I purchased Harbeth 30.1's and agree that the highs and mid-range are very clean and natural. That being said, the bass is weak! I purchased REL subs to provide the missing "link". I should have them hooked up next week. BTW, the Harbeths are ...
Is $2,844 too much to pay for a fuse? I have relatively new Audio Research equipment. Not long ago I contacted Audio Research for their opinion on the value of using more expensive "audiophile" fuses. Their response was essentially if they made a difference, we would use them! One ...
Which speakers did you find bright, fatiguing or just disappointing in some way? Fortunately, in my years of purchasing stereo equipment, I have never purchased speakers without first listening to them for an extended period of time. Since I've been an audiophile for many decades, I can honestly say the the most fatiguing spe...
Has anyone else had issues with the reissue of Eric Clapton's Unplugged Album Layla is one of his best unplugged songs so it really ruins the album. Rather listen to the remastered CD out of Japan at this point. At least my Esoteric player does a good job of playing CD's.
Can anyone recommend an FM Receiver that would play into a relatively high end system? If you don't need FM, it appears the Yamaha has just introduced a pretty good sounding integrated amp. It's not inexpensive but the model number is A-S3200. The November issue of Stereophile has a write-up on it. You could always mate it with a...
Who's using Harbeth with tubes, what speaker model and how many watts per channel? I have the 30.1's and drive them with an Audio Research GS-150 tube amp (155 watts/channel). Also use a AR GSPre (tube pre-amp).
Who are your three favorite female singers? Sarah Brightman...incredible pipes!!!!!Jane Oliver - Don't know what happened with her but she could sing!Grace Slick - I feel she is very underated as a singer. There is a You Tube video of her singing White Rabbit w/o the music. Give it a listen.
If you could, what live performances would you enjoy re-living? It would be difficult to limit it to one...hence, I have a few.Ontario Jam I - Ted Nugent, Aerosmith, Santana...etc. Fantastic set with Nugent jumping onto the stage from a stack of ampliers. At the old Ontario SpeedwayYardbirds - w/Jimmy Page a...
Power amp recommendation for Harbeth 30.2s I have the 30.1’s and use an Audio Research GS-150 to drive them. I agree that they are lacking in bass but the natural mid’s and high’s are exceptional and uncolored. I have purchased the REL T/7i’s to make up for lost bass. Tho not yet connected...
LittelFuses Series 285 AUDIO/MEDICAL Quality I have Audio Research gear and once asked them why they didn’t use audio-grade fuses. Their response was simple in that they could not hear a difference between the standard Buss fuse (they use) and the expensive “audio” fuses.

What's up with TMR Audio? I don’t know TMR but i had experience with SoundstageDirect. They did go out of business. Agree that you are in good shape as you should have no problem getting your money back if they have gone out of business so wait until Friday to give them an...
At what price point do I run into diminishing returns on an MC Cartridge? When your ears no longer hear an improvement! |
