Anyone Here Ever Purchased A Tube Tester?
I have several Hickok testers as well as several Sencore testers. My hands down choice for go/no-go testing is a Sencore, with its grid leakage function. I have an ARC Anniversary pre as well as Atmasphere amps. My 6550’s usually get about 2500 ho...
Best modern 6550 tube for ARC per-amp
I run various KT88 and 6550's in my ARC Anniversary Reference preamp along with Herbies tube dampers in all spots and can hear a difference between tube brands/dampers,  I also roll 6n6p tubes as a drop in sub for the 6h30p's for a very nice (and ...
Tube tester...anyone own their own?
I use a Sencore's grid leakage test to find tubes that otherwise test fine for emissions including fine on Hickok testers. Let warm sufficiently for 15 minutes or so before test...i used to also have tubes that tested fine in my arc preamp, but we...
Problem with Ref 5SE
+1 on staying with stock power cable...it bested everything else I tried.
Turntable leveling
The old level-level saga...easily determined by placing the level on a surface, noting the reading, rotating the level 180 degrees and placing it on the exact same spot and again noting the reading. If the readings are the same...the level is level.

Tube dampeners on ARC gear ... FREE TWEAK
I also previously found that moving the rings to the uppermost top of each 6H30 to be the best position, and have also removed the rings from the power supply tubes (I have Ref 40 which utilizes 10 6H30 tubes, two of which are in the power supply,...
Stillpoints Ultra SS Orientation
Stillpoints recommends that the techonolgy pocket be oriented closest to the component which in the case of the ULTRA SS's, is with the narrow end up. However this is not always possible such as when using ULTRA 5's screwed direcly into a speaker....
Calling Lamm ML2.1 owners
I replaced my 6AK5's last Saturday. Although I checked them on a Hickok tV7 last December and they tested fine, I recently aqured a Mighty Mite IV tester and the life test/emssions showed they were poor. They had been installed for several years w...
Parallel? How do you set the VTA?
A search for "tonearm spirit level" on ebay will likely provide you with what you are looking for. However, keep in mind that more often than not, a level is not level, and the spirit levels I am referring to on ebay have no means for adjustment e...
TriPlanar Tips
Lewm, I have not experienced cover machine screws, for example, loosening after being tightened, but have often found screws and feet loose and sometimes missing on new gear which is the basis for properly tightening everything. Properly tightenin...
Turntable speed accuracy
Solong's observations regarding play in the Raven motors feet is spot on. I utilize PTFE plumbers tape on the threads of the feet to eliminate the play and the metal to metal interface. I have since applied the tape to other applications in my sys...
Best Tweak???
I posted my findings on utilizing PFTE Plumbers Tape on threaded connections such as equipment feet, stillpoints, etc., on the Triplanar Tips thread. Not sure why I never thought of this previously but it has turned out to provide very rewarding r...
