It was the early eighties and I was the bartender when David and friends came in after a show.  From what I recall he was having a great time as he and the gang partied the night away. I seem to remember that they drank a good deal of champagne that nite. He was very cool, and generous. Left me a big tip!

i was just listening to "here comes the night", which i think was his third solo record. imo the best thing he's done--really tight, lean songs (most written with blondie chaplin, who's an underrated guitarist). "bohemian love pad" and "suspicion" are the bomb.

I was watching a blues special featuring several veterans when David came out and did a killer cover of Howlin Wolf's "Killing Floor".  You might be able to find it on You Tube.  Worth your while.

I booked Buster Poindexter at Roxy, Boston in '89... put on an amazing show with full orchestra. Stayed really late and partied with the staff after-hours; a very cool guy indeed.

I was today years old when I learned that Buster Poindexter and David Johansen were one and the same person.

Hi -

Last song, side 1, of the NY Dolls' 1st album.  In my memory to this day from several hundred listens during my high school years.

And yes, Edgar Winters had a song by the same title ...

Much different songs.  Edgar's was an instrumental.

Blown away by the 1st NY Dolls album when it came out.  'Frankenstein' and "Personality Crisis" were the best.  The number of buddies I dragged to the AV room in my high school to listen to that album.

It was years later when I saw David performing "Funky But Chic" on the Uncle Floyd Show.  And of course, the Stereophile interview from 25 years ago.

I saw the NY Dolls as an opening act for The Edgar Winters Group.  They were fantastic.

Saw where he was ill a few weeks ago and the pic look like he was on his way out. Always kept the NYD/David Johansen in rotation but truth is I am going to miss ole Poindexter. Enjoy the music

One of the DJ"s at WCBN (student run station at Univ. Michigan) played a set of New York Dolls yesterday, may have missed an announcement of his death or perhaps he assumed we all knew. Anyway, nice to hear them at work. Artists I so enjoyed in my younger days, dropping like flies, Badfinger member also just passed. RIP

Yeah, I just heard about this yesterday, though it happened on Friday. Any original Dolls left alive? RIP David...
