Counterfeit Chinese Cables

I thought that I would write this for those who are curious about one of the many counterfeit Chinese interconnect cables that are available these days. I know that there have been threads about the subject before, and I was always curious because they seem to be such a bargain. I don't really recall much about what any members actually said about the performance of these counterfeit cables, and I didn't look back and do any research, but a couple of months ago there was a thread that came around to discussing the quality of Chinese made components, and oldhvymec said something that made sense to me.

He said that people that say that what they are making is junk should consider that much of what is in our gear, and a lot of our American brands are actually manufactured there. I decided shortly after that that I would take the chance on a set of interconnects, because I suspected that the interconnects going from my pre to my amp were the weak link and needed upgrading. The interconnects going from my DAC to my pre were Kimber Select which are very good, but the other set were LAT International (now defunct) which had cost $500.00 when new, but I had reason to believe they were lacking because I have one of their digital cables that turned out to be very poor sounding in comparison to others I own.

I decided on a one meter pair of counterfeit Nordost Odin interconnects for a total of $104.00 from Aliexpress. I received them a couple of weeks later. They appeared to be well made, and the locking fake WBT rca's were very impressive and are very tight.

First impressions after installing them were light, thin sound, lacking bass. Each couple of days brought improvements, but from the beginning I noticed that they were quieter. Now, weeks later, I can say that they are drastically better that the LAT's in every way. Detail and ambience are much better, but it's the focus and separation of instruments that is most noticeable.

I have no way of knowing if they are really a copy of the Nordost design, but I am impressed enough that I am going to try a counterfeit Nordost digital cable.

Obviously, this isn't a comparison that is useful to most, because there probably isn't anyone here using the LAT's, and everything is system dependent. I just wanted to relay my positive experience.

The Nordost Odin Golds that I bought off Aliexpress were $50. The real Nordost Odin Golds are $40,000.

There was no intention to deceive or defraud me by the Chinese sellers of these cables, unless of course they either assumed I was incredibly/particularly stupid or I was in fact incredibly/particularly stupid.

Same with the Accuphase stuff I bought for other reasons which I won't go into to keep my post brief.

By definition then (at least the definition given above), I suppose they can no longer be considered counterfeit, at least not for the initial purchaser. The fraudulent behaviour would then fall upon a reseller of the cable who was misrepresenting it to deceive and defraud and profit.

I propose we change the name of the thread to "Blatantly Obvious Reproduction Chinese Cables" to eliminate all the indignation and name calling.

There ya go! Problem solved. Carry on......

@pennfootball71 oh my…i guess you didn’t comprehend that i did not reject but accepted your own reality on counterfeits.  I just had a contrary opinion that you can’t accept or  agree to disagree.  Also as I stated I am not a “counterfeit person” but rather  “Copies person”.  Who says it’s illegal?  If it's illegal why are we able to order them? It’s not like they are being smuggled into the USA. We are just ordering no different than Amazon.

So slow on the uptake.

@roxy54 that is your retort for @pennfootball71 is his misspelling of a word? Your argument is as weak as your original posting.

@bigtwin you know I am right. When you register for this forum there is a code of conduct one agrees to. It must only be for select topics and individuals, much like the laws in this country.

@mahgister I get your humor, though you do drone on a bit.

I cannot contradict a fact and i cannot reacted negatively to a description which is not means to be an insult but aimed toward objectivity ...

You are probably right!

My deepest salutations ...

@mahgister although your Louis Vuitton pajamas are counterfeit, your craziness is 100% genuine.

When you get reincarnated in China, I hope it’s not going to be as a bat.

I inhabit here because i love people and i am retired and be kind to someone who welcome you ... 😊 Anyway i bear no grudge even to the idiot who accused me to be a murderer here 4 years ago guess why ?

Then you know me in a word...

By the way i am interested by the threads about music and acoustics ...

Cables thread are the most annoying , I never bought a counterfeit cable but i felt attacked by the hypocrisy of "legalistic" mind throwing stone easily to others and closing an eye to other illegal but also illegitimate enterprise around us...

Buy what you felt ready to test but dont sell counterfeit ... There is nothing else to say here ...

@mahgister I get your humor, though you do drone on a bit.

It’s interesting that Eric hides behind the forum etiquette rules when he can’t seem to follow them himself.

You know, that’s why you’re being over the top defensive. Questioning ethics is one thing but there’s no need for uncivil behavior towards other members you disagree with.

Thanks @ditusa ! That explains everything. He was an early troublemaker on this thread, (and many others). My advice to everyone here that he has attacked is to stop engaging with him. Like all pot stirrers, he loves attention and gets it through provocation.

I dont like threats even if i never bought counterfeit ...

i hate legalistic pharisees classyfying themselves in the honest group...

As i said and i am only logical...

The best way to clean counterfeit if you  buy one out of curiosity is buying one and throwing it out when your experiment is done ...

This is the way to stay honest...And satisfying curiosity...

Accusing others , theathening them is not uncivil, it is worst , it is hypocrisy...

legality is one thing , legitimacy another ...

Between the two there is a margin ...See world conflicts right now to enlightened yourself ...

If i bought a counterfeit cable try it and throw it in the garbage after my experiment , i am not a crook, i even make a service to everyone by giving an opinion and eliminating a counterfeit out of the market.... Do you think a review of a counterfeit 50 bucks cables will increase their sales?😁😊

Conscious of that instread of buying counterfeit i bought at the same price Chinese cables with chinese branded names ..

I dont like those who see the seed in others eyes but not the beam in their own attitude...

I try to be friendly with everyone here even with those who accused me of murder...

Why acting otherwise ?

@ditusa Total deflection form the realities of Counterfeit cables. So if these guys were of the same opinion then they had it right. Not sure why you are chirping off as this had nothing to do with you. Unless you need to be added to the Known Counterfeit List?

Tube boy that is it, Billy Goat Gruff.

The posse is in force.

I dont mind who you are... We all have alias or nicknames here ...

I mind the way you judge others and act like a spy under the german stasi inspecting the citizen behaviour for the government and almost taking note for a list of names 😁 ...

I know you are not one but why acting like one ?

It is childish or hypocrital or provocative ?

Or you are so honest citizen that you only feel an urge to demonstrate it to all lower kind of humans here ...😊

Buying a counterfeit cable out of curiosity and throwing it in a drawer or in a bin trash after that is not being dishonest it is eliminating a counterfeit ... It is satisfying curiosity...

No one in his right mind here will think that a 50 bucks cable imitating a few thousand bucks one is valuable ...

Why insisting here to be provocative around an audio discussion, threatening, accusing ?

100%
Although this is wishful thinking in some cases relying on proper disposal of this garbage.
My biggest beef is with the concept itself - the manufacturing and distribution of the fakes plus the market that feeds and supports this industry which is everyone here who buys this 💩.
And by the way, good on ya for not buying the fakes!

If anyone is to dispose of these cables after you’re done, see if you can cut them and inspect what they’re made of. May be post some pictures here and add some real value to this thread.

Thanks for understanding my point...

When i went for a purchase on aliexpress i have seen counterfeit at 50 bucks and some other Chinese cables with official Chinese branded name at the same price... Only a fool ( or a curious audiophile ) will buy an official counterfeit , i decided that if Chinese cables makers are able to create fake counterfeit at low price they will work better and invest better materials for their own cable under their own official name for the same price...😊

i was not willing to buy a Nordost cable at thousand bucks anyway or his counterfeit equivalent for 50 then ...

I am pretty sure a 50 bucks Chinese cable under official Chinese name is better done than a counterfeit at the same price ... Chinese sell to ignorant but they also sell to wise people and no Chinese cables maker want to sell trash under an official Chinese name .....

Anyway we will not stop chinese to create counterfeit cables nor will we stop few crooks to buy them and sell them as real on EBAY ...

It is why i will never buy well known very costlier cables used...Even from an honest customers save with an official proof of their origin...

And anyway cables are secondary factors in audiophile experience way behind the electrical noise floor of the house/room/system , the vibrations/resonance mechanical controls and with no comparison at all compared to the acoustics/psychoacoustics aspects of any system/room ..

😊

I did that earlier in this thread somewhere, but here are a few snaps of disassembled "Odin" power cables:

And I will adjust my earlier comment saying results were just okay, the digital cable I bought was darn good, but now replaced by a domestic brand that is even better.
