Cardas or Nordost for Simaudio/Magico

Looking for new cabling for Simaudio 330A amp/390 Pre Streamer into Magico A3 and have narrowed down to Cardas or Nordost primarily as I understand that Simaudio often shows with these cables.  Cardas level would be Clear Cygnus (or maybe stretch to Clear), Nordost would be Heimdall 2 (or maybe stretch to Frey 2).  Need PC, Speaker and XLR IC.  Currently using Acoustic Zen.  Ideally, would like a bit more detail and improved soundstaging.  Probably will buy used and so just want to pick one and go with it.  Appreciate any input.

I would think Cardas. Magico are very very revealing speakers and Nordost are pretty revealing. The combination is going to reveal the leanest of the Simm.

I’d recommend trying Cardas Clear, Clear Reflection and Clear Beyond. I recommend auditioning for a week each. The sound will be of the same character with a difference in bass and midrange. The Reflection will be be the warmest / sassy and the Clear Reflection most detailed. You should take your time... these should be great fine tuning for your system.

Thanks guys, appreciate the input.  What's fun/frustrating about this hobby is the multitude of choices and many contradictory views (which sometimes leaves me missing Henry Ford).

@audphile1 Your guidance to start with SC and IC first and leave PC makes intuitive sense to me but I've had a couple of dealers tell me PC first.  Curious if you did some experimentation to arrive at that conclusion.

I have the Moon 390 and 761 with SF Sonetto V speakers. I use Transparent super speaker cables and interconnects. Sounds really nice.

I have a Moon 390 and I have listened to the 330. Ended with a Pass labs XA25. As far as interconnect I have Cardas Clear review.1 I am very happy with the organic sound and soundstage. Simaudio has used both Cardas and Nordost speaker cables at audiofest I attended. They were Clear and Vahalla as I recall . I preferred the Cardas and the rep and my retailer kind of agreed. The Moon sound is very neutral. The Nordost sound can be a little more bright than the Cardas which is a bit more rounded IMHO. The Magico speakers are already detailed and the Moon neutral. The Nordost will likely accentuate. The Cardas will likely bring a nice balance. Cardas Clear is the sweet spot . Reflection is ok. Below not sure it is worth it. Agree with @audphile1 that Audience Front Row is also worth considering. Of course all depends of your sound preference. Good luck and keep us posted.

@dokosan, "Cardas level would be Clear Cygnus (or maybe stretch to Clear),"

Plenty of good Nordost references here, and if you lean to Cardas, make sure you arrange a demo/return for the interconnects. Having owned and compared Cygnus, Clear, and many others in the line, the results are similar but different in some ways. With the capability of your speakers, if you do try Cardas, I’d stretch to "Clear" between these two IF "a bit more detail and improved soundstaging" is what you are truly looking for. I just notice a smoothness to standard "Clear" and "Clear Reflection"  fwiw. In your case, standard Clear might work, but demo it for sure if you can with.a proper dealer-retailer.

Nordost. What Nordost does is it gets out of the way of the electronics, not a band-aid type of cable. With your gear I would opt for the Frey 2 which is the sweat spot for true high-end(resolving) electronics. Have the Heimdall 2 on my Esoteric A 03/C 03 and feel a slight restriction in performance. Have used JPS Super Q/Audio Magic Natural and Siltech Super New York on the Esoteric gear. The Heimdall 2 and Siltech are very close, with the Siltech having better body and texture and Nordost having speed/clarity and agility. IMO the Frey 2 should improve on the Heimdall 2 shortcomings.

I owned 330a and heard Magico A3.
I think Nordost would be a better match with A3 than Cardas.
I would also consider mixing and matching different brands of cables.

To start with, leave the Transparent PC on the 330a for time being as well as the Tsunami.
Start with speaker cables and interconnects. In this order.

Also consider trying Audience FrontRow speaker cables. In my system they were betrer than Tyr 2. And I’m running Tyr 2 XLRs.

I’ve got Matrix Ref, Matrix Ref ll, Silver Ref, Silver Ref ll, Satori shotgun bi-wire, and MC2.  I can tell you there’s a big difference between the Matrix ll and Silver Ref where the Silvers offer much more upper octave air/detail with a more transparent and expansive 3D soundstage while still maintaining an overall organic and natural AZ sound.  Maybe buy a used pair and see if they do what you’re looking for — you might save $$$ vs. other options.  Likewise the Holograms are said to be a little more detailed than the Satoris so they may be worth a look as well.  Not familiar with AZ power cables, but I’d look at Snake River Audio or maybe Audioquest Hurricane. Here are some AZ used…

Maybe @audfile1 will chime in on Nordost as he’s got a good handle on them.  Best of luck.

@soix:  AZ cables - SC = Satori, IC = Matrix Ref II, PC = Tsunami Plus (Pre into a SurgeX).  For completeness, very old Transparent Powerlink Plus PC into wall for amp.

Magico also shows up using Nordost. If you can’t afford Valhalla ? Tyr is a good choice. Have you heard Silver Tellurium cables , they are are as good as Nordost maybe better.
