@noromance I just downloaded Ghostery and will give this a shot.
Audiogon infested with pop-up ads
I use an ad-blocker on my phone. Recently the forum crashes on one type of browser so I switched to Google Chrome and have no blocker on it. I'm stunned as how almost unusable AG is with the infestation of ads. Even since yesterday, a new type appears slap-bang in the middle of the feed.
@j-wall Yes, that's exactly what got me real irked. Unbearable. So you have to get a free ad blocker app like Adblock Plus. Thanks for all your comments. Summary with Adblock Plus installed on phone. Samsung native browser: Site crashes browser / dark mode works fine Google Chrome: Ads everywhere, fuggitaboutit. Microsoft Edge: Works fine, ads blocked. / dark mode doesn't work |
The ads have actually gotten more overbearing in the past couple of weeks. Usually you'd get a few with niche ebay gear nobody wants or the modern version of Chinese knockoff Affliction dad clothing. Now they've added like two more ads with one being a drop down banner at that top of the screen that doesn't go away and a middle of the thread huge ad with weird anime buff women. It's beginning to become unbearable. |
@noromance, I use Edge and its terrible. I click on a post in for forums and.....nothing. I have to keep clicking on the post before it gets retrieved. I have started using my iPad as I have no such problems with the site when using it. Audiogon is the ONLY site that does this with Edge. One reason I am not in the forums very much now. |
@curiousjim Android. Samsung S21. The native browser croaks on the forum. Started a few weeks ago. So I switched to Chrome. That had the ads. They were top and bottom but tolerable. Yesterday, they started popping up in line over the posts. It was impossible to interact. After firing off my irate post, I switched to Edge and that fixed it. All good now. I guess my point is that if you do experience the ads, how can you stand it? 🤔 Hopefully, this will help those in that position. Note, I understand AG has to make money, and that the ads help in that, but they are so omnipresent that the site on a phone is challenging to use. |
Thanks @dill . Does Ghostery block ads in YouTube. That's another mess. |
