Any good experience in discovering new music via TV or movie recently ?

My favorites are Micatone at Imposters’, Willie Dixon at Ginger Ale Afternoon, Meiko Kaji at Kill Bill, The Lively Ones at Pulp Fiction.....

Something recent which is full of great music is The Good Lord Bird ,worth watching also.Quentin Tarantino always has great music with my favourite being the scene in Death Proof with the great Lieber and Stoller song"Down In Mexico" sung by the Drifters(its a rerecord of the 1957 original done in 1973).Possibly my favourite Kurt Russell film.
+ 1 on American Utopia. I was also impressed by a recent feature that CBS Saturday Morning did on Michael Kiwanuka.
I recently watched the 1961 film "Paris Blues" with Paul Newman and Sidney Poitier.  Fantastic jazz soundtrack!
American Beauty for sure!!

Winnardt, totally agree with you. Just a delightful series I could compliment for days. I would say, for me personally, it was the best show of 2020. Such a satisfying ending and story overall.

This comment isn't about the music in The Queen's Gambit, but I did watch the last episode 3 times because she's so confident, fashionable, beautiful, and even if she had pushed people away earlier, they all come back to help her in the end. The way the different players whom she beat reacted to her is also interesting, especially Borgov who is a gracious loser. And then she took that walk through Moscow and all the old chess players congratulate her. Good stuff.
Bosch's jazz addiction is fantastic. The TV show shows him playing jazz CDs regularly including Frank Morgan and some other lesser known stuff. The Michael Connelly books include many mentions of Bosch's penchant for vinyl jazz.
The theme by Grace Kelly is perfect for the show.

Also, +1 on David Byrne's "American Utopia". Inspiring! Cheers,
Spencer
I have to second The Queen’s Gambit. Great soundtrack for an absolutely fantastic limited series!! I’ve watched that a couple times. I personally love discovering songs or scores via movies and TV shows. The Leftovers and Euphoria are a couple of my other favorites, especially within context of the show.
Horace Tapscott on Bosch.  I queued up his stuff on Spotify and listened for 3 straight hours - fantastic.
David Byrns' "American Utopia" gets my vote....and fun stagecraft to go with a fun listen. *S*

For a good 'weird-out', "Colors From Space" is a slow starter that will make you feel icky about water supplies at the end....;)  Been enjoying 'Debris' on the panel.  Mulder and Scully updated and confronted with the 'wha....' *L*
Oh, nice jazz themes from House of Cards.. got it on Tidal today.. sounds pretty good too.
TV? What the heck is that? Haven't watched TV in ages, and for good reason....it sucks.
Matter of taste... some likes porky ribs, some likes watermelon and others could enjoy both.. poor people who goes narrow tunnels.
well, it was a while back but jewel live at the rialto square theater on PBS I think. recorded it on dish but it eventually erased. tried ordering the only cd of it I could find. sounded horrible!!! would still love to find a quality version. really great.!
Madreblu’s “Certamente” from Sopranos S2 E4.
Similar vein to Sneaker Pimps or Portishead.

Music in the Netflix Queen's Gambit is quite good. I made a playlist of most of the songs.
