8 Reasons why you should buy an $50,000 DAC

Penned some thoughts on my experience of why I invested in an Uber expensive DAC and how it turned out (more to come) , https://audiofool.substack.com/p/8-reasons-why-you-should-buy-a-50000

Hopefully you find it entertaining.

Brickbats, bouquets and anything in between most welcome.

What is the % of Americans who can afford this  "nevermind the money" i will buy the best system in the world , a 50,000 bucks dac included , and a 6 figure room treatment ?

What is the % of people in the world reading this as  the "solution" to audio,( 6 figure sound system+6 figure room treatment)  will appreciate this as a Solution or instead will judge this  complete unconsciousness about concrete situation of most people in the world about audio ?

It is incredible how privileged people spoke :

$50k for something is nothing in the scheme of things. I have a new car that far surpasses $50k and it’s worth every cent. I also have what I want in an audio system that cost a lot.

Congratulation" for your system and especially your car ,  it was very informative ...

My system is 1000 bucks and my room acoustical control is homemade ...

I can teach you how to do one at no cost...

Not so good as yours but for the price you will be surprised ...

A decent car these days will cost you a lot more than $50k. A new Boxster is over $100k, GT3, double that. A genesis gv70 or 80 is $75k and more.

As for room treatments, all the people I know that has 6 digit sound systems have a fully treated room which easily costs 5 digits. Nobody should spend 5 digits on an audio system without 1st treating their room

LOL, if it makes you happy, and you can still afford groceries, go for it!!

Give me two identical room...

In one non treated and without acoustical mechanical control i will put the 50,000 bucks dac...

In the other room i will create an acoustical control  for  the same  system but with 5,000 bucks dac well chosen ...

Guess which one will sound extraordinary ?

Investing in gear piece without understanding acoustics is useless ...

If you have to spend $50,000 on a DAC too get great sound ...You have a big problem. I mean if you cant be happy with a DAC from Mytek, Aurender, or DCS you have missed the boat entirely and your not looking for sound your looking for ..."hey look I have a $50,000 DAC" .

The only reason to put out $50K or more on a DAC or digital system is if it has the sound quality to justify it and you are able.  There are plenty of DACs/digital front ends/combos the sell for well in excess of $50K.  Yes, I know there are lots of affordable DACs coming from across the pond that are affordable and sound pretty decent.  But don't be fooled into believing that they sound anywhere near as good as some of the justifiably expensive digital components available today.  Can digital components in excess of $50K to $375K be considered a good value.  You bet they can, if the performance is at another level of sound quality.  One such example is the Master Fidelity NADAC D (DAC) and NADAC C (Clock).  This may sound like a shameless plug, but the sound performance of this combo is unlike anything I've ever experienced.  It's an experience to hear them playing my favorite tracks.  And the combo, while not pocket change, sells for $55K.  It's the best value I've yet experienced in the realm of digital audio.  From my experience it bests the uber expensive players in the industry (which are admittedly very good).

Reason #9 - You can afford to drop 50K on a piece of audio equipment.  What else are you going to do with the money?  Give it to charity?

A reality is the the Hardware to produce the DAC will be comparative as a BOM to DACs that come with a much lesser retail price.

Is the R&D cost for the DAC and a follow up expectation of a low volume of sales the substantiation for the retail price selected?

Has the Design for the Housing for the DAC been produced in a unusual method and being bespoke, rare and quite unique, adding considerable cost to the overall end cost?

Is the Volume of Air within the Chassis classed by the Company as being priceless, but in this case, by substantially undercutting the price that was intended to be realised, a concerted effort has been made to help it become affordable to a larger collection of customers?

Yes, it was entertaining. But if I had a system that cost in the 6-figures (and some people do, even if it's not me), a $50K DAC would not be at all out of line if I liked the sound and the build.

Funny!

One reason to not own a $50K DAC, it cost $50K and I could do some really good things with $50K Like bet it all on Black at the Winstar Casino.

Just kidding I would bet Red.

I wouldn't spend anywhere close to $50k on a dac.  Plus the rest of the system would cost a small fortune.
