Best female vocal recording on CD?
I have long considered Joan Baez's medley of "I Dream of Jeannie With The Light Brown Hair" and "Danny Boy" to be a good measure of the worthiness of a pair of stereo speakers.  The track is on the "Diamonds and Rust" CD.
Wrapping Up 2016
Under the radar Donovan tune worth a listen: Sunny Goodge Street. bdp, I was in a band in a tiny town in southeast TX at that time and we did "Season of the Witch." I liked Terry Reid’s version.
2016 best new guitar oriented music
This one's an oldie, but if you've never heard Buffalo Springfield Again (their second LP) you should definitely check it out.  Guitars, guitars, guitars...
2016: In Memorium
Signe Anderson, the original female vocalist for Jefferson Airplane, died the same day as Paul Kantner.  She's on their first release, "Jefferson Airplane Takes Off."
Your first component that was "special"
Mid-70's, a McIntosh 2300 power amp (tested by Dave O'Brien at over 400 watts per channel at clipping) which was my band's PA amp.  It could drive 4 pairs of Mac ML-1 loudspeakers, no problem.
Wrapping Up 2016
I remember Redd Foxx's line about cutting pork out of his diet:  S**t, I don't want to be lyin' in that hospital dyin' of NOTHIN'!I didn't take his advice, I'm living ultra-clean.  And lean.I'm scared to ask, has anyone heard anything from Schuber...
Blues "must have, top 100" list?
Slaw, have you ever checked out DVD One from the Led Zep live set that came out some years back?  It's a no-edit performance from pretty early on in their career.  The energy is absolutely amazing throughout.

Mono vs stereo
bdp, yes, the later Beatles mixes can be very different between stereo and mono.  Listen to the stereo version of the song Yellow Submarine and you don't hear "a life of ease--everyone of of us" and on the stereo Sgt. Pepper's Reprise you don't he...
What album do you play over the holidays?
I don't think Linda M. ever wanted to try to be a singer--I think he pushed that, whereas Yoko was a performance artist in her own right.+1 for Austin Rhythm and Blues Christmas, some decent covers there.  I only have it on cassette so I'd have to...
Mono vs stereo
czarivey, I may be in the minority but I prefer the early Beatles in stereo.  Of course I wish they'd done a better job with the panning of the tracks but given the method they used (bouncing between two four tracks, etc.) I'll live with it.  If I...
Mono vs stereo
Nice post, bdp.  On the early Beach Boys LPs, I recall that Surfin' Safari, Surfin' USA, Surfer Girl, Shut Down Vol. 2, Little Deuce Coupe, the Christmas album, In Concert and All Summer Long were all stereo.  The Duophonic crap started with Beach...
Who thinks $5K speaker cable really better than generic 14AWG cable?
I have limited experience here, but I do hear differences in cables employed.  The more expensive do not always sound better to my ears.  I think it's partly a matter of synergy and partly a matter of subjectivity.  Find something that works for y...

What album do you play over the holidays?
I usually select tracks (and this year I haven't listened to a single one yet) but the standby for a complete album has always been Elvis' original Christmas album.
