Dylan wins Nobel Prize in Literature
Mapman, thanks for that.  You've reminded of a little-known Dylan work, "Last Thoughts on Woody Guthrie,"  which you can read here:http://bobdylan.com/songs/last-thoughts-woody-guthrie/or you can hear Bob himself read it aloud (which is better) he...
Headphone or Rig?
I enjoy both.  Each has its strengths and weaknesses when compared to the other.  Usually I'll take the speakers over the phones in spite of the less detail.  It's detailed enough and more lifelike overall.
Chuck Berry will be 90 next week.
Chuck is the king.  I've been pondering writing my first fan letter ever to him, thanking him for what he's done.  He's the only 50's rocker I'd consider for a musical Mt. Rushmore.
GRASS ANYONE?
I like Muleskinner:  Peter Rowan, Clarence White, David Grisman, Richard Greene, Bill Keith--hippiegrass never sounded better than this.  I also like the trio of John Hartford, Tony Rice and Vassar Clements.
Tell Us about an Album That Took a Long Time to Grow on You
bdp24, have you not seen "Festival Express?"

Inna,  I feel sorry for you if you find his lyrics "so-so" and not poetic.  I guess you realize you're in the minority here.  No other musician has ever received this award.
Tell Us about an Album That Took a Long Time to Grow on You
fourwnds, I didn't initially care for Workingman's Dead--I came to like every tune on the LP.  bdp24, I liked your Big Pink post.  I took to that album immediately.  I was familiar with some of the tunes from the radio but didn't know who did them...
Please help ...integrated amp under $1200
I'd like to second the recommendation from yogiboy--I bought a Rogue Sphinx a little over a year ago and am very pleased with it.  I think the phono preamp is particularly noteworthy.  It's just beyond your pricepoint and occasionally a used one w...
Must speakers have certain volume to sound convincing ?
"Stradivarius will sound great in anyone's hands "--this simply is not true.  It takes years to learn to produce a good tone and to play in tune on the violin.  And not everyone who tries achieves that goal even with the years of effort.  So, no, ...
Favorite guitar players not named......

Fresh Cream.  Ugh!  But what a great album.+1 on Layla--jeez, what were they thinking?
are digital recordings on vinyl any better than CD
Orpheus10,  I never said "it's all subjective"--I said "it's somewhat subjective."
are digital recordings on vinyl any better than CD
I had a friend in the 70's who preferred the sound of an LP on tape to the sound of the same LP (direct, not taped).  Go figure.  It's somewhat subjective.  I would bet that many CD fans will prefer the CD and many vinyl fans will prefer the vinyl...
Songs that have stood the test of time.
My favorite Hallelujah is by Puddles the Clown.  Not everyone's cup of tea, I'm sure.
Top Five rock Bass players
Some faves of mine already listed, esp. Sir Paul and the two Jacks.I'm surprised no one has suggested Bill Black (early Elvis) or Les Claypool.  Tom Fowler (Zappa, It's A Beautiful Day, Ray Charles, Steve Hackett, Jean-Luc Ponty) also deserves men...
