Top Five rock Bass players
Some faves of mine already listed, esp. Sir Paul and the two Jacks.I'm surprised no one has suggested Bill Black (early Elvis) or Les Claypool.  Tom Fowler (Zappa, It's A Beautiful Day, Ray Charles, Steve Hackett, Jean-Luc Ponty) also deserves men...
Top Five rock Bass players
bdp, FWIW Carol says Brian wrote out all those Beach Boy bass lines for her. She did come up with many other things including the classic line for " The Beat Goes On."

When will there be decent classical music recordings?
"Someone will say well that is not how you listen at a concert, but that is just archaic. "It's not archaic--it's real, it's natural.  Guitarists and engineers go far out of their way to eliminate those string noises that you think you want to he...
List of musicians changed career with better success...
I personally put the early work of Clapton in a very high place. Every bit of it.  Some of the post-Blind Faith solo work hits me but I find so much of it to be over-commercialized and totally disposable.  Different strokes. And I feel somewhat the...

The demise of the music CD inevitable?
Ozzy, I thought "Live at the Hollywood Bowl" was vinyl only and long out of print...?

Music you HATE the most but once you LOVED it
Two categories that I like less:  artsy/psychedelic stuff like later Yes (think Topographic Oceans) or Strawberry Alarm Clock, Electric Prunes (yes, I had albums by both of those bands)or rock bands recycling styles that were better done the first...
Any modern band that comes close to Mahavishnu Orchestra ?
I enjoyed "Go Ahead, John:  The Music of John McLaughlin," by Paul Stump.  The Kolosky book is good but less objective as I recall.  Both worth reading if you're a fan.
Any modern band that comes close to Mahavishnu Orchestra ?
I'm going to have to check out "Visions" again--it didn't grab me at the time the way "Inner Mounting Flame" and "Birds of Fire" did.  I didn't care much for the live album except for one great track by Jan Hammer:  "Sister Andrea."  I do like all...
Any modern band that comes close to Mahavishnu Orchestra ?
I love Gilmour's playing, too.  So much taste and such great ideas.
Any modern band that comes close to Mahavishnu Orchestra ?
I think Oz has all the technique he needs to do what he does.  McLaughlin has long been my fave electric guy but as far as the last 20 years go I like Oz.  I appreciate the musicanship of all those other cats but his music reaches me and theirs do...
Any modern band that comes close to Mahavishnu Orchestra ?
Inna, Oz can kick in the afterburners when needed.  Most of the time it's not needed.  There are many virtuosic guitar players, some mentioned here, with incredible technical facility but whose music leaves me totally unsatisfied.  I've seen Oz ab...
Any modern band that comes close to Mahavishnu Orchestra ?
Inna, my top two would probably be McLaughlin and Oz Noy.
