Your Favorite Cover Songs? Thirteenth Floor Elevators' cover of Dylan's "It's All Over Now, Baby Blue." One of the two Byrds covers of this also excellent.
Cheap Box Sets My best-buy box set ever: The Beaux Arts Trio's 60th anniversary box. You can find it for under 2.00 per disc (I got the 60 CD set for 100.00) if you try. Tremendous variety and consistency. Don't be afraid to take the plunge on this one.
The Band on MFSL I just checked on "google images" and found several examples of Big Pink with rainbow, not lime green, label, FWIW.
The Band on MFSL I would have sworn that my original copy of Big Pink had the rainbow label. But it's been many years, so...
Favorite Genesis Tracks? Watcher of the Skies, Supper's Ready. I don't care for the post-Gabriel band at all. I'm a fan of Phil as a person and a drummer but not so much as singer/frontman. Besides Foxtrot I like the Genesis Lve album, which is from around the time I s...
Class D = Trash? I've had my Rogue Sphinx class D (hybrid integrated) for 1.5 years and am quite pleased with it. In the past I've owned McIntosh, Dynaco, NAD. Not trash, IMO.
The value of of the sealed record. I have only one sealed album, and I bought it to replace my original copy, which still sounds good. Unfortunately it hasn't appreciated greatly in 30-plus years. FWIW it's the reissue of the 13th Floor Elevators' "Easter Everywhere," which is a ...
Magic Moments in listening Most of my magic moments in listening are while I'm driving. I keep my iPod in shuffle mode and some tune I haven't heard in ages will come on and knock my socks off. Maybe I need to hook it up to my home system once in a while.
James Cotton dead at 81 I'm glad he was able to stick around this long--last time I saw him I had some doubts about his longevity. Those four tunes he recorded for Sun Records are great, and of course he did so much since then. Is there anyone of the old Chicago blues ...
Same song different artist. Which ones do you love? LP tooblue, I beg to differ--this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C53QAuOoSgcand thishttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6xEpIgFAPGQare two totally different songs. Different melodies and different lyrics. Van Morrison's cover is the Dylan song. I don...
The awful truth about CDs, do they have the same shelve life as LP's ? I have had plenty of "homemade" CD's go bad over time. The player won't even recognize them. But with commercial CD's, not a problem.
Best budget integrated choices on the low end I'd get a used NAD BEE 2-channel IA and on the high end I'd go with the Rogue Sphinx (1395.00 w/ remote)
Larry Coryell RIP His duet with John Mclaughlin ("Renee's Theme" on the Coryell LP "Spaces") knocks me out every time I hear it.
Bach Goldberg variations played by Glenn Gould analogue master Tapes are stored "tails in" or "tails out." One (the former, I think) means the tape is rewound so that it is as it was when new and unused--i.e., the tail of the tape is in the original plastic reel with the rest of the tape wound around it, rea...
What is most important part of a system? Speakers are the personality of the system. I'd rather hear my speakers with a boombox for power/source than to hear the boombox speakers with the rest of my system for power/source. Of course, none of us would put together either combination bu... |
