Which one produces a bigger change... changing a rectifier tube or tubes on my DAC?
Which produce a bigger change? - both, but how much of a change depends on the specific tube.  I don't have experience with the Modwright Oppo but I do with my Lampi Atlantic TRP.  The best rectifier I have used so far is the Psvane ACME 274b.  It...
Recommend speakers for Hegel H190
Nearly every speaker will work with the Hegel as they will drive nearly anything that doesn’t dip below 2 ohms. With such a large array of choices you really should focus on your listening priorities and not what "goes well with Hegel". The world ...
Thoughts on Peachtree Audio Nova300
The Nova sounds too dry and 2D for my tastes.
How do you all manage mild hearing loss?
Have you visited with a doctor to see what your hearing loss really is instead of guessing?  It seems like it would be easier to effectively remedy with a proper assessment of the issue.
Looking to improve my system
I'd consider a subwoofer.  Your speakers only go down to 41Hz and a good sub(s) will likely add some richness and improve the soundstage significantly.
Line conditioner...
nor do I think they choke things off if you have a good power supply in your gear to begin with. A current-limiting power conditioner can DEFINITELY choke off and even shut down amps.  You need to match the conditioner correctly to the amps.
Why are there so many wooden speakers?
Well I'm happy with my speakers constructed with multiple layers of Baltic birch plywood. No plans to sue anyone ;-)
PS Audio BHK versus Herron VTSP-3A(ro2)
The volume difference you notice between the two pre's may be due to the differences in how they each handle gain.  I think the Herron is fixed at 14dB and the BHK uses a switched gain adjustment linked to its stepped volume controller.
Why are there so many wooden speakers?
Choosing to focus on one element of speaker design (while ignoring the vast myriad of other variables) is playing to the lowest common denominator of forum membership by dumbing down the plot so much. Well done as always @kenjit
Why are there so many wooden speakers?
But if you want to make an even better speaker then you obviously need to use a better material. And what are these better materials that we consumers have all been denied?
PrimaLuna Preamp Upgrade Question
I read plenty of general comments here and elsewhere about how going separates was always better, but I was skeptical as to how much difference it could make. In this case with PL it was very much worth the extra cash. Funny.  The loudest voice...
Synposium Acoustics - Impressed!
@limomangus My TT Sits on the bottom half of my mothers old China cabinet, it has never sounded better. Where did your TT previously sit...on your waterbed?
New Unreleased Art Blakey
@rshak Interesting review from Fremer because honestly my initial impressions matched his (somewhat). I felt like he was a bit harsh because the album is an enjoyable listen but it didn’t feel loose at all and in fact it felt like the musicians pr...
Jazz vocalists which may not be as real as we think/imagine
It's so much easier to just not like Diana Krall instead of crying foul at the production.  She doesn't stir my soul and it has nothing to do with any vocal manipulations.  Give me Nina Simone or Carmen McRae any day ;-)
Speaker shootout update; aggressive treble eliminating some (fairly?)
I've not heard the Fritz but the other 3 you tried definitely tip towards the treble and bright side of things.  I'm not sure why you picked those for audition if you are deliberately trying to get away from bright treble.  The Dynaudios may sound...
