ONE MINUTE Premium Power Cable Survey A note on survey design - allow more space for open-ended responses for why the questions do not apply. In my case, because I use isolation transformers before power supplies. This does the same job, but better. These are results of experiment..
Thinking of Magnepan ... finally! @yesiam_a_pirate "If you want to use them for home theater you will be sorely disappointed." Only if you count the EPM (explosions per minute). I have an all-planar 7.0 system with plenty of bass: 6 Magnepan MMW, 2 DWM bass panels and a Quad 290...
Law Of Diminishing Returns? Third post nailed it (mulveling). Is that $10k cartridge THAT much better? Only if the rest of your system is.
Forced to DIY DIY since I retired. Can't afford a $250,000 table, but I can get the same or better performance with a little thought and lots of research. All it takes is time, that and willingness to compromise on non-essentials. So my table doesn't have a pre...
Thinking of Magnepan ... finally! DWM bass panels use magnets on BOTH sides of the vibrating mylar film. This results in the very linear push-pull effect, which gives minimum distortion. The 20 series does that too for the bass panels IIRC. That’s why the best panel bass is qualit...
Thinking of Magnepan ... finally! You could upgrade the crossovers, but that's just icing on the cake. IMO.
Thinking of Magnepan ... finally! I first heard Magepan in 1973, the Tympani 1A's. I was hooked and blew 70% of the budget on them. Since then I have had SMG's, IIIA's, and now I use 6 x MMGW plus two DWM's and a Quad 2905 (centre) in the HT. Also I use two DWM's to complement my...
Building a house I understand that Green Glue is not a glue - it is a sealant or filler. I prefer something that contributes both actively and passively, like M1. Being a strong adhesive, M1 bonds the two layers together, adding their strength. This benefits the o...
Home audio or pro audio? My experience with pro has been pretty mixed. I use Canare Starquad for interconnect and Bryston to power both woofers and HT. Very, very good. But some of the systems put together by pro shops sound absolutely abysmal. To me. YMMV I say, shop ...
Spending a month's salary IMO, Travel. Audition until a pair of speakers knocks you over. Buy them. Compromise on the rest. I did that with Magnepan, 50 years ago. 70% of the budget, and a good decision. YMMV Good, reliable electronics need not cost the earth. For example...
Lend me your ears... Melnas was a Scandinavian (of course) mezzo who sang in the '80's. She is best known for the epochal "Cantate Domino" recorded and released by the Scandinavian (of course) company BIS. I believe that the title is available on SACD. I have no idea ...
Lend me your ears... I have no opinion on the HW, as I listen exclusively to analogue. But I absolutely agree about Flagstad. Flagstad is Flagstad, dominating the field like no other since Caruso. Have you heard Melnas, recorded on BIS?
An interesting experience with power cable. @macg19 , it seems to me that they use 16 strands of 15 AWG. If we assume 6 strands for ground and 5 strands for each of 'live' and 'neutral', that would mean 8 AWG for power, better for ground. With the rest of what you say, I have no quarrel.
An interesting experience with power cable. Sorry, @macg19 , but I'm a little fuzzy this morning. To what in these specs do you object?
A Thought Exercise: Consolidating Analog To One Table and Two Cartridges In my experience, an air bearing TT is incomparable. More clarity, more warmth, less noise. That's air in all dimensions, no contact bearing at all. Once you hear it there's no going back. IMO. If your budget will stretch and if your floor is co... |
