Thoughts On Turntable Clamps And Weights
Not all weights and clamps are created equal. The contact surface with the record also matters. As the stylus moves in the groove, it causes the record to vibrate slightly. This is enough to cause detectable distortion. Therefore this vibration s...
Thoughts On Turntable Clamps And Weights
A weight does NOT necessarily raise the outer edge of the record. A properly designed reflex clamp is a well-known engineering solution to this problem. I use a very thin Delrin shim of about 75 mm diameter and a 2+Kg steel weight with a Delrin r...
A Story about a Defective Signature Platinum
"Koetsu is also distributed by MoFi." Yes. And the Epoch is better. IMO
A Story about a Defective Signature Platinum
That is a truly awful story. Sympathy. Like MSL apparently, Koetsu likes to hide. Maybe a cultural thing - so what? The effects are the same as ill will. That was part of my decision to buy more locally this time, and Grado is mightily accessible...
A Story about a Defective Signature Platinum
Consider Grado. Comparing the Diamond Koetsu Rosewood Signature Platinum with the Grado Epoch, the Epoch is just better. More resolving, smoother, better tracker.
Fun With Cable Risers
If the floor has 120VAC lines underneath, then cable lifters will do a lot whenever current flows. Otherwise, I doubt it.
Why is Audiogon insisting on a verified physical address in order to post?
Guess so.
Why is Audiogon insisting on a verified physical address in order to post?
I was asked and when I tried to comply, I was blocked. Twice. Third time lucky?
Leaving my amplifier on ok?
@bishop148  Try an isolation transformer. Not only does it protect your equipment, but it improves the sound more than a high end power cable. @invalid  It's heat that's the main enemy. If the caps don't get hot, they'll last and last.
Will China become the poor man’s dealer for high end audio?
Quad ESL's have been made in China for a long time, and the QC ranges from OK to good.
Do Your Speakers have LEVEL CONTROLS or EQUALIZERS? (Vintage or Modern) ???
Sort of. In addition to the 2 stereo outputs, which run ESL's, I have two blended outputs with their own volume controls. These volume controls are downstream of the master volume control, and drive Magnepan DWM's.  Basically it's an active cross...
Some observations from a former skeptic - and a question
Power cables make a difference alright. Just not as much difference as an isolation transformer, which also protects your equipment from spikes on the AC line. I did the experiment, which I've detailed several times on this forum. Only trouble wi...
Leaving my amplifier on ok?
I find that my Class A solid state mono blocks sound better after 96 hours. They run at body temperature. There are no electrolytic caps in the mono blocks to dry out. The power supply is in another room, where the electrolytic caps remain at room...
Effects Of Power Cords On Electrostatic Speakers
@piaudiol I've never had ESL's running less than a KV. Which ones were you thinking of?
Effects Of Power Cords On Electrostatic Speakers
@bugredmachine Good point! ESL's need low capacitance / high inductance cable, whereas magnetic speakers need the opposite. Otherwise is gone the HF ! Easy to get low capacitance / high inductance cables: just run two separate wires an inch apart...
