Solid State to replace Audio Research REF110?
Ayre - can't think of another amp that would be comparable
Phono Cartridge advice
Actually one gets better sound from a higher output cartridge...all things considered... Unless you have a state of the art pre-pre, you're better off without one.
Random Static Hits
I like the Mapleshade gizmo. It doesn't (but may eventually?) shed some metal bristles, but why should I care?...I'm sweeping the record before playing with the brush anyway. The metal bristles are very soft. The brush is very effective.
What would give the best overall improvement
Certainly not Gingko.
To Vandersteen or not to Vandersteen
Simao....I strongly recommend you talk to Audio Connection in New Jersey. They are a Vandersteen and Maggie dealer. John who owns the place will give you lots of good advice. I have Vandersteen 5A's and are very happy with them.
Project Xtension 12 or VPI Classic 3
VPI has a very active and friendly customer service. If you have a problem/question, they will make it right. They do everything in their power to please their customers. Classic 3 and Benz LP is a great combination (I have an LPS - even better). ...
rushton
Also Richard Vandersteen (for me)

Silver cables
...just wondering why silver is your preference. Silver is not necessarily better than copper...
$7K to spend on new turntable + arm
Mustang....that's exactly what I was talking about.... you're the joke after all
$7K to spend on new turntable + arm
Thanks Lewn, but just to clarify myself....I just think it is unjust for people to denigrate VPI or anyone without just cause. All you say is true about unipivots, however, I really never rock it. I shove it to the beginning of my LP, and use the ...
$7K to spend on new turntable + arm
Angioccio.....It doesn't matter to me what you regard as good, bad, or indifferent, but to badmouth a product with misinformation does readers of these pages a disservice, and casts a shadow on you. The VPI arm is not at all unstable unless you se...
Magnepan Ribbons and Hearing Loss
If you ever downshifted a Ferrari at 30 mph, and tweaked that gas pedal for even a second or 2 and feel the rush...you wouldn't ask that question.
More turntable set up problems
..that's why it is imperative to decide on a component that is well established and has a reputation for wonderful customer service. I came to that conclusion years ago when I got burned with components that became lost in the marketplace.
