New VPI 3D Arm
Doug....that's the reason you use heavier weights closer to the fulcrum. If the record is warped, a weight farther away from the pivot will tend to be "thrown" and affect the arm more than the weight at the fulcrum. The object is to disturb the st...
tonearm parameters
Choose an arm that is appropriate for your cartridge. Low mass cartridge should be installed in a low mass arm. Choose an arm for its adjustably. All aspects of cartridge setup should be clear and easily adjusted. Good bearings and precision of ma...

BRF....there was some discussion at VPI as to the validity of using brass side weights, however it did not improve the performance but did increase the cost of manufacture, therefore, the idea was dropped. I do not have brass (though brass would p...
New VPI 3D Arm
Regarding the Discovery wire....I didn't ask Harry that question. The Nordost wire I had in the 10.5i was definitely more sensitive to the upper frequencies, and thus sounded "harder" overall. The most salient characteristic about the 3D arm is is...
New VPI 3D Arm
Don...Why would you ask such a dumb question??
Power cords?
In my experience the connectors are responsible for 80% or so of the sound....maybe more.
New VPI 3D Arm
Harry says the cable needs about 2 months. I hear progression after 8 or so albums.

How do the top Vandersteen's compare?
Fozgometer Connection
I have an all Ayre system and are running everything balanced, including the tonearm with XLR connections everywhere. Sure you can use adapters, however, it was very easy for me to take the signal from the tape out (RCA) on the preamp.
New VPI 3D Arm
As soon as the stylus hit the groove - even before the music started on the first album, I knew this arm was better. The arm does not seek to find the lead in groove...it just lands there with no jiggling. The 10.5 was quiet, but the 3D sounds alm...
New VPI 3D Arm
Those who read these pages are probably interested in getting that last degree of perfection out of their setup. In mounting my Benz, I took the suggestion of Fremer at the Analogue Planet and tried for a 92 degree SRA with the stylus set up as pi...
VPI Classic 4, any one have it?
I have posted a message about my 3D arm, but it hasn't yet been published. It is quite long and maybe the powers that be are checking my facts...anyway....if you are about to buy a 3D....WAIT....read my post when it gets published. Right now, the ...
Low frequency problem while playing vinyl
I suggest getting rid of the problem rather then covering it up with a filter. Linns do best on very lightweight small tables ( probably the Dual too). The next thing to think about is the cartridge/arm compatibility..you don't mention the arm or ...
Anyone tighten up drivers occasionally
B&W's use a plastic ring between the driver and the baffle...if you use too much torque, you will flatten the ring, and the speaker will not be spec...Vandersteens use screws on their drivers only to hold them in place while a mastic is drying...
Damping the analogue "setup"
I have found that Doug/D is right again. I live in Arzona with many dry riverbeds close by. In these beds lie rounded rocks. i was floored how these really help my electronics. I should post pictures of these 5-8 pound or so rocks. They look a bit...
