burning in capacitors for phono stages
I have the preamp volume turned up full.I like the idea of being able to hear the caps as they burn in using the cd player, think I'll give it a try. Thanks, Scott
An Audiophile's journey
SETs have much more than midrange. Number one, you have to the proper speakers to match them to, its all about synergy. I've had SS, push pulls and SETs in the main room. I've also had push pulls and SETs in the bedroom system, currently have a So...

Bob, I would think it would take longer to burn in the cap with that scheme. Wouldn't the cd player be sending out a lower level signal than the preamp?
About your music collection
The last word from me about what constitutes a music lover. I never said that only audiophiles can be music lovers, I said "based on my experiences, I'm really BEGINNING to believe one has to be an audiophile to be a music lover." Nothing is set i...
About your music collection
Photon, I'll give you credit on the musician thing. I suppose they have their fill of the highest quality sonic experience, live music!I'm unable to objectively define what is superior sonic reproduction for others. Perhaps people with tons of mus...
burning in capacitors for phono stages
Rodman, I'm burning them in for aprox. 150 hours. I've heard in speaker crossovers the V Caps can take 400 or more hours to fully burn in. Eventually, I will get around to building the burn in scheme you suggested. Thanks again.

Thanks for the info Rodman. I'm using the burn in scheme suggested by Johnss. We'll see how that works.

Thanks Johnss, I will try that break in procedure for my speaker crossover caps.As for the cost of boutique caps, I find it rather inexpensive for amount of change I hear. I consider cabling a high cost item for relatively little change. Besides, ...
Confessions
I'm like Kthomas, like too many genres to afford feeling guilty. I suppose I'm particularly fond of really obscure stuff from the late 60's, early 70's, listening to this stuff really brings to mind the zeitgeist of a unique moment in time.Just la...
VPI TNT balancing
Your problem sounds really bizarre! The Shelter only weighs about 8 grams, the stock counterweight should be applying proper tracking force close to the pivot point. You either have something seriously wrong or some really lightweight counterweigh...
Almost there but not quite....
You have a problematic room. You certainly are sitting in a near field listening position. I would expect you are losing a lot of air and spaciousness due to that listening position. Is a short wall configuration possible? Try to get further away ...

I know break in of caps is a contentious issue. I only know that many hear changes as capacitors age. The upcoming cap rolling will tell the tale for me. Thanks, I do understand about caps holding charges, and do discharge them prior to working on...
auditioning sessions vs. listening sessions
The two often mix for me. When adding something new I start in the auditioning mode, if its a good change I just sort of drift into the music mode. Bad changes usually get tossed out pretty quickly so I don't have to stay in the analytical mode fo...
Anyone NOT like the sound of VPI?
I should also mention I had the previous iteration of the Pro-ject Tube Box with a Rega P25. I thought the bass was somewhat lightweight with that setup. Knowing what I know now, perhaps it wasn't the Rega, rather the Tube Box that was holding bac...
Anyone NOT like the sound of VPI?
I would take a close look at your phono stage, I recently changed out some coupling caps, made all the difference in the world. If your problem is the same as mine, all the changes in setup or cartridges are not going to solve the problem. I don't...
