Ever discover cheapo speakers actually sound...
Perillo, I suspect you like the MBL's imaging capabilities, much different from our Merlins. When I first went to my Merlins from my previous Alons (2 different models over many years) I was somewhat disappointed, they sounded closed in compared t...

Pedrillo, I've always noticed your decoupling technique with the Merlins. I believe what you say about decoupling them as I hung a cd player with fish line from the ceiling some years ago, best isolation I ever acheived with a digital source. Stil...

I suspect Pedrillo is listening in the manner Almarg mentioned earlier. Pedrillo even states he has an optimistic listening bias. I listen to bad recordings on my high resolution system using the same bias, you can find the good in just about anyt...
Speaker Help Required
Speakers are not your problem, your problem is the opening to the hallway on the right speaker. You have the right idea, adding a door, will give added reinforcement. Since you can't add a door, how about some temporary free standing room treatmen...
"Breathing" of the air
SET amps, very coherent speakers that image well. Other amp designs can do it as well, I just think its more inherent to the SET sound. Clean AC is an absolute necessity as well.
why is it that on some records, sound terrible??
Mostly your setup. Use something like the MintLp cartridge setup tool to minimize tracking errors throughout range of travel. Some of the problem may also be pressing and recording issues.
Little bit "forward" sound - what cables to avoid?
Sorry, meant Hubbell 8300 rather than Wattgate. The Wattgate PC connectors are correct.

You may not even have to change IC's or PC's to get what you want. You say you don't want tweaks. I don't know if you consider AC receptacles as tweaks, but these can make a large difference in soundstaging. I suspect a large portion of what you d...

Pat, check out my listening impressions of the Duelund VSF over at my virtual system. Over the top review, the Duelunds are the real deal!
Thorens 145 MKII headshell?
You mean you don't have the part to mount the cartridge to, this is the headshell. I have one from a Thorens TD160 arm I'm no longer using. I'm willing to sell, don't have a clue about price off the top of my head. Email me if interested.
Help choosing coupling caps
Hard one to answer. I'm in the midst of experimenting with boutique caps, as usual, its all about synergy. I haven't decided whether all V-caps would be a good thing or not. I'm auditioning Duelund VSF's this weekend (burning in since Tuesday), ho...
Need cable advice
As usual, lots of praise for the anti-cables. I've tried tons of cables at all price levels over the years. The anti-cables are perhaps the value king of cables, just be aware they they are not shielded. If you live in a high RFI, EMI environment ...
Sell Hi-Fi and invest in stock market?
It may be smarter to get your financial advice from this website than all those genuius financial services advisors. Weren't they the guys telling us the economic fundamentals were sound just a couple months ago!The economists I listen to and trus...
Repair Reliability?
Lloydc, I simply don't want to besmearch the name of this company. A single bad episode may not reflect the true reliability or repair record of this company. Perhaps an anonymous survey of audio equipment reliabililty should be undertaken, somet...
