Magnepan for Background Listening
You might be disappointed if you’re only listening at low levels. I had an all digital integrated with maybe 75 watts (4ohms), and it just struggled to make my 1.7s wake up.You bring up an interesting point. I have heard several people say that Ma...
Magnepan for Background Listening
Cool. It sounds like the biggest limiting factor is going to be treble since these guys aren’t very tall. Do the stands allow you to tilt them back or has anyone tried the book trick to fire them higher?
Magnepan for Background Listening
True. Part of the appeal is that they can be shoved against the wall when not being played.
Subwoofer Class A/B vs D Power Amplifier
The REL T5 is great for a small room. They are so good and blend so well that you don’t need to use 4 of them. One is fine, two is better, but it depends on your music. The JL will likely overwhelm a small room. I like to keep amp classes both Cla...
Opinions and recommendations on active loudspeakers
True. I don’t know anyone who prefers the LS50 passive over active. Why don’t studio monitors come with optional magnetic grills so they can be acceptable in a home? An active Magnepan would be incredible.
Schiit Freya plus. Is this an upgrade?
If you don't need the remote their headphone amps (solid state and tube) can be used as preamps.
Terrible Booms
Have you tried stuffing socks in the ports?
YBA PRODUCTS
Andre designed the Audio Refinement series but had it manufactured in China to save money. https://www.stereophile.com/integratedamps/499ar/index.html

I also have the Audio Refinement integrated amp and CD player. It's an incredible combo. The build quality, attention to detail, sound...all top notch.
Black Ash.....
I would say black matte looks worse than ash. Gloss black won’t work with every room.if you want your speaker to be the main attraction in the room, then yeah go for a whirly burly curly Salk cabinet with a bright color.
How come Horn + woofer designs are not more popular?
The 4367s are great but most audiophiles don’t want them in their living rooms because of their size and looks. Klipsch is doing a great job making their horn speakers look cool. Nobody would confuse them for DJ speakers.
Amp for nee LRS Maggies
I would skip the stands and subs and use part of the amp budget to move up to the .7s. Outlaw 2160 is a really nice stereo receiver for well under $1000.
Magnepan LRS compared to the .7 or the 1.7i ?
Here is a review comparing to the .7 at about 5.5 minutes into the video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gdqchci3AhUThe .7 has more bass, greater dynamics, and a larger sweet spot. It’s the same speaker, you just get more of it.
Cost Effective Sub Woofer
REL or Sumiko for music. Easiest to blend and incredibly musical.SVS and HSU are great for home theater or for 50/50 music/movies.
Wharfedale Linton Heritage 85th Anniversary
MoFi/Music Direct (the US Distributer that sponsored the room) could’ve given Wharfedale a Luxman, McInstosh or other more premium amp. MoFi is getting aggressive. They also flew a couple of YouTube reviewers to Axpona to push their product lines,...
