I need more Funk
James Taylor Quartet : Extended Play.Fabulous Acid Jazz ... the best album (EP) of that genre that I've heard.
Has anyone heard the new Led Zeppelin Live cd
"self indulgent wankery". I'm going to commit that phrase to memory for future usage :-) Thanks phasecorrect ! Methinks that phrase could be applied liberally around modern jazz, modern art , audiphilia, etc etc.BTW I looked on amazon and I could ...
Anyone tried the new monarchy "DIP classic"
I guess I'll take that as a no. If I do get one then I'll post a review. I'm currently undecided.
Do You Remember Your First Music Purchase?
My very first was the 45 of "Remember you're a womble" by The Wombles (who else !?). Fellow brits out there might appreciate that.In terms of LPs it was "A Night at the Opera" by Queen. Still a great album, but has suffered from being played on "e...
Where do you draw the line???
1) I will never believe that speaker cables can ever be directional. It's AC .. I don't care about crystalline structure of the metal ... it's AC.2) That rap is music, or some sort of legitimate art form. No it isn't, it's noise. :-)3) SACD is abo...
Good Classical discs for "beginners"
Has anyone here read the NPR guide to building a classical music collection ? I understand it provides a path into classical for those (like myself) who are not very broadly familiar with it. It always seemed like this book, plus the penguin guide...
Do you really need ultra expensive cables?
rodney ... you completely misinterpreted the responses, mine included. Cables make a difference ... but you don't have to spend a bunch to get reasonably good ones. But they do make a difference.
Do you really need ultra expensive cables?
I think 5% is nearer the mark, especially if you make your own.
Where does imaging come from?
For studio albums where each instrument is recorded individually :a) Imaging is done with a balance control.b) depth can often be achieved through compression and/or reverb. For example compressing the vocals has the subjective effect of bringing ...
What should well placed speakers sound like?
Here are two great placement sites :http://www.audiophysic.de/info/aufstellung/e_index.htmlhttp://www.cardas.com/insights/index.htmlIf you have speakers next to side walls or rear walls in my experience it kills the imaging. One day, just for fun,...
Soundstaging and imaging are audiophile fictions.
Last time I attended an orchestra I could clearly hear that the french horns were left of center, and the trombones were right, that the violins were to the left and the cellos were to the right. So naturally I like to hear my hifi do the same.Wit...
Aerial SW12 vs. Rel Stentor III
No experience with the two subs, BUT the 30Hz vs 20Hz might make a big difference if your main speakers go to 35Hz or below, since it's very important to avoid excessive sub /mains overlap to prevent the sound becoming very boomy. If you main spea...
Radiohead -Hail to the Theif
Thanks for the heads-up on the new album. I concur with tireguy that I don't listen to radiohead too often, but there are times when nothing else will do.
Didn't They Learn Their Lesson With DIVX
You got it in one .. we vote with our wallets. In fact for some time I have considered that my purchase choices are a more powerful weapon than my ballot box vote in terms of shaping the future of this and my home (UK) country.Go buy used CDs and ...
Audiolab info needed
Larry .. I own an audiolab 8000C, and have listened to 8000A, 8000S and 8000DAC. It seems to me that audiolab strives for accuracy ... telling you how it is. I like this trait, but I would never describe them as lush and tubelike. I think transpar...
