Emotiva UMC-200 vs Oppo BDP-105?
I just purchased the 103 myself, and have it set up as a processor straight to my amp. Seriously impressed, I can't hear anything lacking as the OP found, perhaps it is system dependent? I also have the Oppo 95 in a 2 channel system and I have to ...
What is your most beautiful component?
The Parasound Halo A21. Most of my stuff is black and the result of too much logic, left brained thinking and not enough passion! Not so the A21, and although I'm sure there are prettier girls at the ball, Parasound really did a nice job with the ...

How did your sound system evolve?
Ah, Rlwainwright, your story sounds a little too familiar! Yours was one of the last threads I participated in before the Emotiva forum banned me. I had been a member for about 4 years, and had seen many get banned for not agreeing with the group ...
Best cheap speaker cables............again
AQ Type 4 is a great option, but if you go up the line to the Rockets, I don't think you can go wrong.
Parasound P5
Just noticed on the Parasound web page that sales of the P5 have them in a sold out situation. They are trying to meet demand but there might be some short term delays. They appear to have hit a sweet spot in the market place.
KEF LS50 Need Help
I would concur that silver cables can have an effect, making the sound bright or overly extending the higher frequencies. Can you experiment swapping out the silver IC's? I'd also suggest giving the Kef's more time to break in, 25 hours may not be...
Amplifier for rear channels
That BAT is an expensive amp, but you sure don't need to spend that kind of money to dabble in 7.1. Keeping at the 200 wpc, Outlaw Audio's mono block, the 2200, is 679 for a pair. Outlaw is a well regarded internet direct manufacturer, as is Emoti...
Onkyo 805 receiver no sound - any clues?
Fair enough, the ARCAMs, NADs, and Cambridge's are the exception to the rule of mass market receivers for under !000. Since the OP is looking to spend $650, he's got a budget that precludes the high end powerhouse brands.
Onkyo 805 receiver no sound - any clues?
For only $50 more you could get an Onkyo 818 which has the TOTL Audyssey room correction, which has much more resolution and also integrates a subwoofer better than ever. Might be worth a look, people are really impressed with it. The Denon is als...
mid-rang pre amp
Not sure how the xbox and ps3 and cable box could all be accommodated since they obviously all output video as well as audio, but the Marantz AV 7701 seems like a good middle-of-the-road choice if one is set on a dedicated processor.Perhaps Dbphd ...
Warm, Smooth yet Transparent Amp
At the risk of being called some kind of heretic, I'll make a suggestion of my own. I've been unhappy with my 2 channel system, swapping out components, all to no avail. I acquired some Paradigm Signature S6 in '09 and had been trying to build a s...
mid-rang pre amp
PS: The way technology is advancing in the home theater world, it's almost counterintuitive to spend large dollars on a pre amp processor when it'll be out of date within a couple of years, unless you are sure you won't get enticed by the newer te...
mid-rang pre amp
Be aware about the UMC-200 and the upgrade card, the XMC's price has gone up twice and it hasn't even been released yet. Currently they are projecting it will come in at $2000 minus the discount with the upgrade card, just FYI.For the Oppo 105, si...
Morrow SP2 vs. Straight Wire Level 2
I've become a big fan of solid core speaker cables instead of stranded wire, after trying out some Audioquest Type 4. You can buy it bulk for $5 per foot and biwire it, or buy it pre terminated with bi-wire banana plugs for around 250 and it easil...
