Tube amp/preamp for B&W CDM 9NTs I would recommend a VAC preamp and a VAC PA100 amp which you should be able to purchase for about three grand. This combo drives N802's admirably well and should mate well with your 9NT's. The VAC gear is very well made, reliable, and excellent so...
Anyone modded Classe CA300? The CA200 may not have a big problem with this. The fins on the CA300 make a high frequency ping when tapped with your finger nail which my DR8 amps only make more of a dull clink sound when tapped. The transistors are mounted to the back side of ...
Anyone modded Classe CA300? Damping the ringing heatsinks helps a lot for a DIY simple mod.
Svetlana 572-3 tube---Still available? The 572 lists being available on the www.tubesandmore.com site which is a local electronics distributor here in metro PHX. They list for 58.80 ea and are Svetlana brand.
nautilus 801 bass accuracy Does your room have thick heavy carpet and are the speakers using the B&W spikes or resting on the stock roller ball feet? The spikes will add increased definition and lighten up the bass. At this point, you may want to tailor the sound a bit ...
To Hot to Handle? The VAC PA100 is 100 watts and the difference in heat radiated between it and one of my Classe DR8 solid state amps is neglible. I live in metro Phoenix AZ and do have A/C however heat is a big problem, therefore I don't have 450 watt tube monoblo...
Different sound from inputs 1 and 2 on preamp I never switched to Jack Daniels, still drinking Jim Beam but changing the preamp did eliminate the input differences. In my case, the differences were of soundstage and image specivity not a frequency type change.
Different sound from inputs 1 and 2 on preamp The Audio Research LS15 sounded different from each input, very noticeable in quick a b change. My current preamps, VAC Renaissance and Classe DR5 do not exhibit this behavior. Pick the input you like best and use it.
Is this Sony CDP still good???? While it is no longer a state of the art player, it still sounds good. I have the same player and compared to my Cambridge D500se it has a better soundstage and better low end weight. It is not as resolving as my Linn Karik/Numerik combo. The buil...
Technics SL-10 Linear Tracking See my post above. Ortofon TM20 from The Needle Doctor. The regular mount version of the same cartidge, which is the OM20 received very favorable reviews from The Absolute Sound. The SL10 will benefit from a good isolation platform. I use a Townse...
I could use some jazz mentoring. Albums that are heading down that same road that pop into my mind would be Gil Evans "Into the Cool" and Herbie Hancock's "Empyrean Isles."
Do You Remember Your First CD Player? It was a Sony player, something like a 505es. I believe it had favorable write ups in Stereo Review or High Fidelity. I bought it in 1985 and it was bright and glared horribly through the treble range, and where was the dynamic range they promised...
2 channel Poll: Vote: Do you use Tubes or SS? I have two racks side by side, one is SS gear and the other tubed. I have the option to use two different cd players and three different sets of speakers and my preference is the tubed electronics approximately 80% of the time.
Classe Reliability : Your Opinions? I've owned a DR5 preamp for fifteen years and it has never required repair and still works flawlessly, even the red indicator light is still operable which is amazing considering it is powered up all the time, something over 130,000 hours! My DR8 ...
Power Amp suggestions in $2000 range ? A VAC PA100 would be a nice match with your preamp and have plenty of power with your B&W's. The sound can be tailored with tube choice and it is fairly compact and doesn't generate much heat for a medium powered tube amp. It is also very reli... |
